McDonalds PR stunt gone wrong.

I am wondering why, if this sauce is SO popular, does McD not have it available more often. I understand rarity helps promote the brand and demand but a once a month thing would seem to keep a lot more people happy and spending money.

I think that the blame here should be shared between McDonald's; for pulling a silly publicity stunt like this in the first place, and the customers; for being so greedy and shallow that they worked themselves into a frenzy over some damn sauce.

Just go to the supermarket and you can buy all the Szechuan sauce you could ever want.

You obviously underestimate the popularity of Rick and Morty.. and so did McDonalds.

From reading the article what is popular is the TV show really, not the sauce, that has only been available 20 years ago.

I don't think the stunt went wrong, I think it went very well.

Probably should've just left it at giving a bottle of the sauce to the creators of the show. I was considering going but I'm sure there are hardcore fans (maybe too hardcore) that want it more than I did.

Have not eaten McDonalds fare since 1993.

Never looked back.

Facepalm. The answer to that question was literally fifty times easier to Google than to ask here. Seriously. You get about three letters into "Rick" before it spells it out for you.

Just as a public service announcement, pretending not to know who obviously famous people or what prominent cultural references are went out of fashion about twelve seconds after the aforementioned googling became possible.

I sometimes watch Rick & Morty. My friends who are hard core fans are still obsessed with Pickle Rick. They don't talk about this. And, finally, I hated their Szechuan sauce the first time it was out so why would I bother now?

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humor in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them
