In light of the mass shooting in Las Vegas will we likely see high-rise hotels in Vegas banning high-powered rifles and automatics?

I mean if you are heading to Vegas on a leisure trip why should you bring your rifles to your hotel room?

Well something significant has to be done to improve safety for guests both inside and outside the hotel...

This will likely be debated for many years....

You can ban whatever weapons you want, but if you don't check anyone coming in to the building, there's not much you can do to enforce it. I personally don't want the US to become the type of country where you must clear security to enter hotels when the odds of something bad happening are still very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very small.

I agree with you about the low odds. They would be low also for incidents on aircraft and at sports venues.

Should there be a law absolving large public facilities, that do not employ metal detectors or search bags, from massive lawsuits that inevitably arise when the rare event does take place?

I should think that insurance companies will be concerned about future risks.

Conversely, hotels/casinos could ask any guests that are unarmed and unwilling or unable to defend themselves in a gun battle to indemnify the hotel from any liability. I'm pretty certain the NRA would be in favor so right there you'd have a majority in the House and Senate (I mean as soon as Wayne can type up the talking points and email them out). Death and mayhem aside it would be interesting to watch the recreation in slow motion of 8,700 half drunk casino gamblers pull their Glocks out at the first sound of gunfire at Caesars and start returning fire. The good news? They wouldn't have signed that indemnification!

I suspect that guns are banned from the casino areas for obvious reasons but it would be near impossible to ban them in hotel rooms of all hotels.

the ones i stayed at had loads of hookers. I would assume they charge 1,000's judging by the looks

The hotel you stay at in Moscow doesn't get anywhere near the foot traffic a hotel on the Las Vegas strip gets.....

I'm not going to get to in depth here, but the security at Vegas hotels is pretty good already, for obvious reasons we have more cameras on a casino floor than most small cities.
Most casinos also employ facial recognition software on a database that is constantly updated.

The problem is, as with every situation, if someone is motivated enough, they will find a way to get the guns in, Paddock managed to get a pretty good arsenal past the security set up at Mandalay, you can be sure that Mandalay/MGM security/surveillance is being pulled apart inch by inch to see how the hell it happened and ways to stop it from happening again.

especially the "who is paying" part. Security is expensive, and i don´t think Hotel gusts are very excited to pay for some peoples gun fetish, so the only reasonable way is to levy a tax on guns and ammunition to reimburse for all gun related expenses.

In a previous life, I ran large casino hotels, (although not in Vegas). We were in a jurisdiction that did not carry the same level of risk of firearms being brought onto the property. However we did have metal detectors for entry onto the gaming floor.

To implement into the hotel floors is certainly possible, would certainly inconvenience people so it depends how much all stakeholders value this level of security. Would also have an impact on design and traffic management. Resort style hotels are open plan with many points of entry.

That is not true on the strip might be true in general, but not on the strip.

the strip the big hotels don't allow open carry or guns in their casino, they don't want to be robbed nor do they want someone who lost a lot of money
to commit suicide on their property, it's bad publicity, and the same reason why they no longer have windows that open. They are tired of people checking out
via their room window.


Wynn security has already touted that what happened at Mandalay Bay would never happen at their resorts, and i tend to believe them since they
were built after 9/11 and have medal detectors in the elevators, that people can't see, but security can and they routinely escort those people out.
