Android O name expected on August 21
According to official reports, Google is expected to announce the Android O name on August 21, the day of the solar eclipse. I think this pretty much confirms that the name is Oreo, despite source code leaks in June with references to "oc" (hinting at "Oatmeal Cookie"). In addition, last month there were images of a black octopus with a horizontal white mouth and a dark blue background (the color scheme of Oreo).

Won't be Oreo, it's a trademark.
(and a horrible, tasteless, plastic product).
Name matters not a jot, there's nothing standing out in terms of real evolution so far. Just a glorified update.

Google did a trademarked name once, with KitKat. As long as Google can reach a licensing agreement with Mondelez, there is nothing stopping Google from using the Oreo name.
My personal preference was actually Orange Crush.
Now, for Android P, I would like to see Pink Lemonade.

Considering that the fan favorites often seem to be brand names, I wonder if the fan favorite for Android P will be Pepsi. I remember when the fan favorite for Android N was Nutella. Apparently that didn't happen because Google couldn't reach a licensing deal with Ferrero, thus they settled on Nougat.
