German Linguists Create Future III For Events Related To New Berlin Airport

Thu Aug 10, 2017 9:22 pm

This is hilarious. Sorry, link only in German: ... rt-um.html

Basically, the German language has no form for referring to events related to the new Berlin airport, as we only have the Futur I for events faking place in the future, and the Futur II (future perfect) for actions that will have been completed by the time of speaking, but is missing a form for events that will not have been completed in the future.
The German language is quite flexible and in motion (we just had 5000 words added to the "Duden" last week, like "selfie stick", "emoji" and "to tinder"), so it doesn't come as a big surprise to have the Futur III added as a new form.

"Nächstes Jahr um diese Zeit werde ich gerade meine Koffer aufgegeben hätten gehabt",
roughly translated:
"This time next year, I will have checked-in my luggage would have had".

This brings back memories of a chapter in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that discussed the fact that the most complicated part of time travel is not the technology, or changing the course of history or becoming your own father, but simply, a problem of grammar.
All the things you probably hate about travelling are warm reminders that I'm home

There's another tense: Condomi Imperfect. Example : Du haettest nicht geboren werden sollen (You should not have been Born)
Was Erlauben Erdogan!!!
