Macron is driving up the Champs-Elysées, not aboard an open top sedan like usual, but aboard a military vehicle, normally used to review the troops on the 14th of July.
What a contrast to another nation that has an elected therefore political President, no standing in an open vehicle for any of them, more like a convoy of heavily armoured, blacked out windows, line of vehicles, decoys presumably included.
Both formed as nation states in the 18th century after revolutions.
Both have had assassination attempts on their Presidents, some in one nation's case successful more than once.
Both on alrt for terrorist attacks, France of course has recently suffered a wave of them, some lone radicals with limited weapons, others by a group with much more firepower.
Yet there goes the new French President in an open top vehicle. Despite the country being on high alert.
The differnce? One has millions of weapons in the hands of thousands of people who really should not have them, this why all of the assassinations of US Presidents, successful or not, on US soil at least, have been carried by nutjobs. Lincoln, McKinley, JFK (yes, him too), near misses against Ford (one of Charlie Manson's followers), very nearly Reagan. His attacker thought killing Reagan would attract Jodie Foster to him!
While gun crime is far from unknown in France, there simply is not that vast pool of hardware so easily accessible.
