Non-Av pictures 2017 Q2

Fri Apr 07, 2017 3:11 pm

Over in the US for 10 days to see the family. Staying in Milford CT. Some pictures from the last few days (after fighting IOS to get the links).

Love the night shot and long exposures Oly. Good to see a new thread up-and-running. Maybe David_itl would like to add his pics to this thread, seeing that the one he posted on yesterday is past it's sell-by date.

My latest batch is a mixed bag, taken on a trip around southern Portugal and Spain:

Well done on the photos to both of you.

Braybuddy.

The stair picture, and the modernistic structure. What causes the building in the right side background to appear to be leaning severly?

Thank you! The answer is quite simple, and nothing to do with the structure of the building. I simply used a wide angle lens, a photograper's favourite, particularly for architecture shots. It lets you capture more of a scene, so is particularly good for getting large objects into the frame. In doing this, it slightly distorts distances and angles, which can give quite a dramatic effect (another reason for using it).

The structure, by the way, is the Metropol Parasol in Seville, apparently the largest wooden structure in the world. Summer in Seville can be unbearably hot, so it provides welcome shelter from the sun.

Now that I asked the question, I do believe I asked it before and you explained it then. :ashamed: Thanks again and keep them coming.

Looking vaguely familiar...

A few from Lyme Park near Manchester taken on the 2nd April. All of my phone... not yet sorted out the photos on my camera

View from the hill going toward "The Cage" and Lyme Hall

Heading toward the park exit, taking the lower path with "The Cage" on top of the hill

And one final look at the view

WarRI1, thanks for the kind comments when I put them on the out of date thread!

Finding it a bit bizarre that I'll be putting my new photos here whilst my Flickr account is getting a steady flow of last years photos in chronological order. Serves me right for not getting up to date over winter.

No sweat! That was over something else, but the answer was the same. As they say, there are no stupid questions, only answers . . .

As for the rest of the pics, these were taken in Cadiz and Cordoba, including the magnificent Mezquita cathedral:

Braybuddy.

Excellent pictures once again. The four pictures after the lady smoking seem to be inside a church almost of Egyptian design or like a Mosque. Why are there no crosses, religious figures? Very unlike here with a Christian influence such as Catholic. Just a thought, impression.

Well spotted, and I hadn't noticed. It was originally a small Christian church, then rebuilt as a mosque after the Muslim conquest, then converted back to a Christian church in the 13th century. Pics 5, 6, 7 and 8 were taken in the mosque part, but the third pic was taken looking up at the dome of the Christian extension, which was built in the 17th century. There are crosses and religious figures in both parts, but somehow I managed to miss them all. :eyepopping:

I live close to Milbury Conn and Boston. I reside in Rhode island. I am a little further from Lancashire. Never the less, a fine set of pictures of both areas near and far.

Lovely sets of pics up there guys. Things are getting busy this quarter!

It's back to local pics for me this time: it's great to have a stretch in the mornings and evenings, so I've been making the most of the recent good weather:
