IKEA to launch new LCC: FLIKEA !

Fri Mar 31, 2017 1:37 pm

IKEA will be launching a new LCC! The new airline plans to fly non-stop from Sweden to Australia! How Exciting! :D

From the IKEA FB Page:

We're taking to the skies with the launch of a low-cost airline: FLIKEA!

We’re thrilled to announce plans to launch our own airline in 2019. FLIKEA will be a single-class, low-cost carrier that will travel to may international destinations, and will include the world’s first non-stop flight from Sweden to Australia.

The airline will utilise the five dimensions of Democratic Design unique to IKEA – exceptional form, quality, sustainability, function and price – to reduce aircraft weight and fuel requirements, resulting in a dramatically reduced transit time, lower ticket price, and cutting out the need for any stopovers.

Note: The clock has just went past 12 in Australia ;)

I don't think any aircraft can make Sweden to Australia nonstop. Correct me if I'm wrong

sure they can, didn't you hear about the special mixture they fly on. Part of it you have to take with you in the tanks, but part comes from the air, they will be chemically be bonded to fuel which can be used in the engines. So that saves room and weight in the fueltanks and that's why they can fly to Sweden from Australia. I think the press release will be out tomorrow, if am not mistaken. :D

Depends what part of the world you're in. Lounging in a poang for 12 hours...comfy!

Compared to the never-ending blah Euro-white that would be one nice livery.

Luftfartsverket and CASA nevertheless approved this start-up quickly. That is despite the fact that it will be inevitable that the odd screw is missing for some of those seats to be assembled.

The pictured B767-500ER XWB actually look super comfy. Any word yet on whether they will use VXO or whether these magnificient aircraft that they are pioneering require the runway length of ARN?

Ever since the Internet, this date went from fun to annoying.

Edit: by which I mean things used to be surprising, and therefore funny. Now I didn't even bother to read this thread - just a look at the title tells what time it is somewhere in the world. Pathetic.

I don't care how cheap it is, building my own seat seems dangerous, the instructions are in a language where the dollar sign appears to be a vowel, and I don't have an "IKEA metric-ish .0624 Hammishly" drill bit.

The luggage goes into the Billyhold and they Name the Business class "Gudvik".
And the seats can be reclned by using an Imbus Key.

This airline will never fly, because they cannot to C checks on the planes and disassemble them with only an Allen wrench...

Not a problem if it's in Burbank as they recently closed their store beside the mall and opened up a huge one a short distance away. :point: At BUR, the aircraft would just taxi down the I-5 and pull up to the IKEA gate adjacent to the expansive parking apron. :airplane:

they are going to get rid of overhead bins and replace them with plastic totes.... however, economy+ will get wicker baskets.

tray tables will be replaced with small bamboo tv trays you put on your lap.

The good thing is the MEL would be great, you'll have half the parts left over once it's built and it'll still function as expected.

Hell, if I had an airline, I'd partner with Ikea on serving their meatballs to passengers.

Here is a link to a April Fools Joke they put out in an e-mail today ('Bigland' modeled after the "Smalland' kiddie play areas - must be over 21 and potty trained): http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/aprilfools ... id=8694995

To me it seems FlIKea would be a step up from some airlines like Ryanair or the USA 3.

IKEA stuff is really easy to me, so this seems like a great idea. I wouldn't mind having to put together my own seat. I would be uncomfortable using the lav, though...

Indeed so, as is the Kopparberg version that used to be exclusively sold in Ikea stores, now available all over the place. If this new 'airline' took off, I'd fly them just to have a few Kopparberg Ciders.

Time for me to be kranky again: Kopparberg and cider in the same sentence! No, absolutely not... That's like calling Fanta "orange juice".

https://ciderplex.com/2015/07/23/rekord ... not-cider/ (and that's aside from the fact it doesn't even taste like real cider) :box:
