"You don't listen". My wife says this all the time so I find myself tuning her out more and more. Now I understand why my dad used to get so excited about losing his hearing aids.

Whenever you have tons of work to do and your colleagues say "Good luck".

Though these words come from a good intention, they are quite irritating.

When people pass you in the hall, at the gym, or anywhere else and say, "How are you doing?" but keep walking. Do you reply to the question? Do you just say "hello?" That drives me insane because not everyone makes clear that they actually expect a response. If you don't expect a response, don't say "hello" in the form of a question.

Only coming from my mother:

"My iPhone wont ____."

The other week, with a major snowstorm (the one that didn't really materialize in the Philadelphia/DC area), AND fighting a respiratory virus (that I still haven't totally gotten over), I was up to her nursing home TWICE because she lost her game volumes, and doesn't think to read the book I got her - "iPhone For Seniors For Dummies."

My list:

+ airbii (used as a plural form of Airbus).
+ bae (in Danish, this word means, "poo.")
+ Vegan (I worked at a French Restaurant for a while and these people always irritated me because of the time it took away from the other guests with their lengthy menu modifications to simply place their order. In the land of butter, cheese, and dairy, etc.; Vegans dining in a French Restaurant. Seriously?). At this point, just go to Whole Foods or Tender Greens or anywhere Vegan-friendly.
+ Gluten-Free (In the 80's & 90's, I never heard of this being an issue).

Haha reminds me how once I got a bunch of newbies at my old job to stop being intimidated by me. Two of my friends were having a disagreement and asked me to settle it while I was standing with the new people.

Friend: "Ian, settle this - if someone pokes you on Facebook, that means they want the D, right?"
Me: "Well fucking obviously"
Friend: "SEE!!!"

Up until then I'd never sworn in front of them and been full of the corporate BS speak (usually because the boss was around)....all of a sudden I became Mr Approachable.

Maybe it's the overuse of it, or maybe it's the contexts in which it gets used a lot, but I find the word "holistic" incredibly obnoxious. I think it stems from elementary school, when the school counselor would come visit our class several times a year to talk to us about whatever the emotional/social topic du jour was (another thing I couldn't stand- I'm not a real touchy-feely person), and always used "holistic" to describe whatever the subject was. In my mind it'll always be connected with touchy-feely, new-age kinds of things.

I have no problems with particulars words.
But I don't like politically driven terms. The ones that almost never have substance. The ones which are a part of brainwashing.
Like:
"Democracy" or "our democracy" - people tend to confuse representative system with democracy.
"Values" - if this term is being thrown, nothing sensible can be expected.
"Diversity" - for obvious reasons.
I could go on. But the point is quite clear. I guess.
I am on EK 231/232. The rest is just jet lag.

While it's not grammatically incorrect, just a personal choice: the use of the singular in conjunction with the word "no" and the plural personal pronoun. I always assume the person is trying to be clever and assuming that the word is singular. Eg: "None of them was present", when "None of them were present" sounds much easier on the ear, IMHO.

This one just annoys me so much and I see it so much in corporate emails ... "thank you for reaching out ..." it is just so completely fake and overblown. I didn't reach out; I just sent you an email inquiry or question. That's not reaching out (at least, not to me!)

Another that used to really annoy me, when I was young, was my father's use of the word "perturbed" - mostly as it meant I was about to be in hot water!

Then, in "government speak", I used to get letters which used the phrase "we have no plans to ... ". Again, just a phrase that cropped up again and again and you found yourself muttering under your breath, "well make f----g plans then!"

I can't stand the word "Queue". It isn't commonly used in US English, but I hear it all the time when I travel in Europe. In the US we would say were were waiting in line, not in queue. Why does this word bug me? Back in 2000 I had a call center job that was TERRIBLE and the annoying boss would always remind us about all the calls in queue so we needed to work faster. She was constantly saying "We have _____ calls in queue". Every time I hear that word I think of that job.

Why can't americans finish a sentence without saying "You know"? Drives me crazy.especiallly when the don't have (ain't got) a clue what they are talking about, you know.

Arriving at Vienna, Austria if goes like "Where are the Kangaroos, you know" No, this is Austria, not Australia and they ain't got no Kangaroos, you know"

None "are" irks me, so I try to avoid saying "none" in a situation where there might be was/were confusion. "Not one" or "Not any" may be unwieldy, but at least using them forces use of the singular and plural, respectively.
