Also, if one day the politics in your country heads the wrong way, then opposing them could be considered "doing something wrong.".

It's feasible of course but given the number of centuries we've had a government and the instances they've gone the "wrong way" in the way you imply I'm not really worried. Checks and balances. I'd have been more worried living with Henry VIII. Now he really would have used surveillance cameras.
