Well, actually Renault was the only engine who could "compete" (please note the quotation marks) with Mercedes last year. And they're the most winning engine after Mercedes since the new rules.
We'll see on Saturday where they stand this year.
Meh, a Renault engine in a Red Bull was the only package which could "compete" with Mercedes last year, a Renault engine in a Renault car was the equivalent of a spam sandwich on stale bread. Not entirely sure Renault was due much, if any, credit for RB's "success" last year
But I see your point.
But yeah, it's F1, so cost reduction shouldn't be in the talks. The token system was indeed a disaster, and I hope we never see such a thing in place anymore.
If they are going to make F1 a stock formula, then they should just do it.
As I said on another forum - no team is in F1 accidentally.
There is no promotion.
There is no relegation.
No team is competing in F1 because they had a good run in GP2 one year, every team applied and was accepted *voluntarily*, so they should stfu about how expensive F1 is and sod off to a lower tier if thats all they can spend.
