Several news outlets are reporting that Honda is as much as 100bhp down on its closest rival, mainly due to them running the engine conservatively due to the reliability issues, which still showed its ugly head anyway.

If thats true, thats it for Honda in this sport - 3 years in and they cant produce a reliable engine?!

This morning Autosport reported that McLaren sounded out Mercedes about engine supply if Honda can't make the necessary improvements: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.ph ... on-engines

How soon in the season could they make this call do you think? 2 to 3 races or would they need more than that?

There is a clause in either end of the Honda-McLaren contract which allows them to terminate it at the end of this year, and you cant switch engine suppliers mid-season, so...

This crap keeps coming up, and its always by those that cant compete...

Renault has suggested Formula 1 should consider putting limits in place on how much engine manufacturers can spend.

The token system was a disaster, so why would people think that this idea would be any different?

Thr FIA are dropping the "Max Verstappen rule" regarding movements in the breaking zone, enacted mid season last year after complaints about Verstappens behaviour under braking.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.ph ... king-zones

This is great, the original rule was ridiculous and drivers should have adapted rather than whinging about Max.

Well, actually Renault was the only engine who could "compete" (please note the quotation marks) with Mercedes last year. And they're the most winning engine after Mercedes since the new rules.

We'll see on Saturday where they stand this year.

But yeah, it's F1, so cost reduction shouldn't be in the talks. The token system was indeed a disaster, and I hope we never see such a thing in place anymore.

Meh, a Renault engine in a Red Bull was the only package which could "compete" with Mercedes last year, a Renault engine in a Renault car was the equivalent of a spam sandwich on stale bread. Not entirely sure Renault was due much, if any, credit for RB's "success" last year ;)

But I see your point.

But yeah, it's F1, so cost reduction shouldn't be in the talks. The token system was indeed a disaster, and I hope we never see such a thing in place anymore.

If they are going to make F1 a stock formula, then they should just do it.

As I said on another forum - no team is in F1 accidentally.

There is no promotion.

There is no relegation.

No team is competing in F1 because they had a good run in GP2 one year, every team applied and was accepted *voluntarily*, so they should stfu about how expensive F1 is and sod off to a lower tier if thats all they can spend.
