This aircraft had one of the most challenging introductions to service of any program I can recall. Does anyone know the reliability and in service stats for the Osprey over the past few years? I have to assume they've ironed out the major problems to get an order like this.

Hey guys,
Any rumours about Australia's interest in the Osprey for special operations? I think that they would be great to support our SAS but I'm no expert....

Lot's of other countries seem to be interested. Japan seems to be the only export country up until now with 5 ordered.

Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!

The LHDs have been certified for V-22 ops since 2016, https://australianaviation.com.au/2016/ ... alian-lhd/

There were rumours a few years ago about potentially operating the aircraft but I doubt we will see an Australian V-22 order. More likely would be acquisition of whatever comes out of the US Future Vertical Lift program in the early 2030s to supplement or replace the MRH90 fleet.

I will bet the President is also "Suprised" since none of the VX-1s V-22s are white tops.

Still a maintenance nightmare I believe.

dragon6172, thanks for the correction to HMX-1.

It looks like this order is for the most part a USN buy of the new COD version of the V-22....https://news.usni.org/2018/07/02/navy-a ... rd%20Brief

Yes, Senator Obama from 2008. He didn't take office as President until 2009

I'm not entirely up-to-date on the helo developments and such, but I thought everything from here-out would revolve around the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) aircraft. I guess the 22 is larger than the valor and no other replacement exists yet in that size/capacity.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Osprey - it's actually one of the most interesting static aircraft to walk around and check out at air shows. The sensors and tiny innovations are fascinating, especially the engine exhaust cooling systems (right at eye-level) you can check out rather easily.

May have to do with the fact that C-2s are extremely long in the tooth and the Navy doesnt want to wait around for R&D of a new aircraft when the Osprey will do most of their mission.
