Buffalo does get a lot of snow. However these LC-130s are based in Schenectady, New York with the 109th Airlift Wing and are used for landing in the far reaches of the North like Greenland and on surfaces in the extreme south like Antarctica. Nothing to do with Buffalo.

RW... the Buffalo allusion was intended as humour. There needs to be some skid-equipped Hercules in the USAF... and an AG unit in a northern state is logical. Do MN or AK AGs have any?

No. The 109th is the only unit with ski equipped C 130s.

And, considering the planes were designed to support the Greenland DEW Line, NY was a good location. Now, they support the NSF in Antarctica, it’s a long positioning flights. Yes, new-build H-models.
Strangely, I once shared the ramp at Pago Pago with one of the ski-birds. Both crews being from the Northeast, we had friends (I knew their recently departed squadron commander), so standing around chatting halfway ‘round the world.
