Looks like two of the Avro Arrow prototypes have been located

Sun Dec 03, 2017 12:43 pm

No idea why scientist from the "Fraunhofer-Instituts für Optronik, Systemtechnik und Bildauswertung in Ilmenau und Karlsruhe"
tested their freshly finished drone submarine in Lake Ontario.
( Actually "Kraken Robotics" in Canada seems to have aquired a license for mass production. ergo ...)

That's great they found some! Nine into Lake Ontario, and two into the Atlantic from somewhere in Virginia.

Fraunhofer people wrote that they have found ~500 objects of interest this summer/fall
_and_ will continue their search ops next year.

Looks like interest exists and that there is a chance of finding the remaining frames.

Now the joker question: any chance for them to be retrieved?

I understood that what they found were wind tunnel models vs actual aircraft.

reading that seems to be "YES". :-( ambivalent wording in the topmost article.)

2 of 8 ?scaled? Avro Arrow models as payload on souding rockets that seem to have been aerodynamic testing.
( ref: https://www.fraunhofer.de/de/presse/pre ... unden.html )

going by the text they seem to be looking for the full size prototypes too?
