No Russian?

"Purchasing these aircraft is a huge step toward replacing the aging VC-25As," said Maj. Gen. Duke Richardson, the Presidential Airlift Recapitalization program executive officer. "This award keeps us on track to modify and test the aircraft to become presidential mission-ready by 2024."

Cutback too. They initially wanted three.

The two frames are the Transaero NTUs.

Boeing spokeswoman Caroline Hutcheson said in a statement that the two commercial planes were sold to the Air Force “at a substantial discount from the company’s existing inventory.”

There's no reason they can't get a third, but USAF has at least saved[*] on the first two.

[*] depending upon whether or not this actually saves any money.

Mind boggling, the new VC-25B's will be 8 years old by the time it will be mission ready. You got to love those government procedures. Why do something in 2 years, if we can take 7 years to do the same task.

Takes a long time to do the work. Even the 748i takes a few years at Lufthansa Technik to have a full VIP interior installed.

Add to that the full ultra-neurotic outfitting the USAF top brass will insist on and it's a heavy job.

Come on, let's not do politics here. Your statement is ridiculus.

I'm glad they're one step further. Saving money on white tails instead of buying brand new off the line is probably a good idea. I'm sure Boeing is happy with it as well.
