FYI, unconfirmed reports that aircraft that caught on fire was armed and nearby hangers were evacuated.

I'd say even if the jet wasn't armed the area would have been cleared because of the hydrazine on the F-16.

Plus the pyrotechnic charges on the pylons, and carbon fibre burning, which can release respirable fibres, which are a health hazard.

"OK" squadron designation on the tail = ???

Very odd that the pilot jettisoned himself(?)...

The way the jet ended up, indicated that it stayed upright until coming to a halt... even though it was on fire [catastrophic engine failure?].

From the fighter-macho perspective I'm used to... most fighter pilots would have ridden the beast farther down the RW... especially when it was obviously had landing gear under it.... and was probably under good lateral control... and It may/may-not have been close to flying... and the departure end might not have been an ideal place to dump the combat-loaded jet. In that case. Once it comes to a 'rest', the canopy could be opened 'routinely'... or if that wouldn't work, THEN it could be jettisoned... and then the pilot would unbuckle and hop over the side. As it is, this could be a 'hull loss' [components salvage].

Any reason you're assuming the gear was still down?

How about you ride in a jet that is on fire and see how long you want to stay in it

The Texas Air Guard Vipers at EFD were retired and the 111FS/147FW transitioned to UAVs at EFD and RC-26s.

Now the Oklahoma Air Guard out of Tulsa has a "permanent" detachment down in Houston at EFD for the NORAD missions and alerts (EFD was actually one of 7 bases on alert before 11 Sep 01) that is why the OK is on the tail.

They actually evacuated for nearly a mile closing some businesses and homes due to the live ord on the plane. Media reports the engine ran in idle for a very long time after the incident which delayed crews trying to get to the plane.
