I had no idea they were serious about buying from Russia after all these years.

I thought the order had gone cold as well! Nice photos and good to see an interesting MiG-29 paint job.

That looks an awful lot like a MiG-29K or some development of it... beefier gear, huge flaps, and the little Krueger flap on the LERX...

I hope the Egyptians get new airframes up to the quality standards that they would expect, unlike the Algerians...

It's going to be a bit difficult for Mikoyan to screw up Algerian style this time. Unlike the Algerian planes which were updated first generation Fulcrums, these are 2nd generation versions with very little in common with the old versions. A bit like building a Super Hornet from a legacy Hornet.

Correct. First foreign operator of the type. I would imagine the EAF is quite excited for these birds. Interesting how the Egyptian Armed Forces have been buying more Russian aircraft lately- Mig's for the Air Force, and a bunch of Ka-52's to equip their French-made assault ships. I wonder if an Su-30/35 or Mi-28 order is in the future to replace early F-16A's and compliment their new Rafales, as well as replacing old Gazelles.

Isn't it the first operator of any MiG-35?

I doubt the Flanker family will play a role in the Egyptian AF. The Rafale will fill out the top end of their AF, with the F-16 filing out the middle ground. They have also been expressing interest in the JF-17 for some time now, which would fill out the lower end of the spectrum. As for what needs to be replaced: The 56x MiG-21s, 82x Mirage Vs, 46x Phantoms (still in service?), 57x J-7s and 17x Mirage 2000s would probably go before the F-16As.

On the helicopter side, we must not forget that they already have some 60 Apaches, including a bunch of very new Longbows, so they probably don't need the Mi-28.
