Quoting KC135TopBoom (Reply 49):
They have only about 300 missions total for both aircraft, not bad for aircraft delivered from Boeing in 1991.

And from reputation I hear about how they treat their planes, the airplanes would be in immaculate shape.

Well if it looks like the 747, all they need to do is add the Hinomaru Yosegaki to the tail and "JAPAN" to the side of the fuselage.

Better close-up of the jet. Note the missing windows at the front of the aircraft.

Hi guys,
A quick question....
Any update on the disposal of the existing Japanese AF1s, the 747-400s?
Plus,
Are there any other known Boeing wide bodies coming down the line for government VIP use?
Cheers,
Bunumuring.

There is one 747-8 VIP still to be built. And India is said to be looking at two 777-300ERs, but there is some confusion as to whether they will be new-builds or conversions of existing Air India frames. And Israel is in the market for a new governmental model, but I expect that to be a used frame.

.

Tokyo has been buying UH1Js from Fuji, they are still in production from existing contracts and they just selected a version of the 412 for the next few decades! I was making a point to counter some thoughts here that a modern VIP plane is necessary, even though they have hardly any hours on the present one, when they are quite happy buying 1960s technology for their military in the early 21st century.

Anyone know where this is happening? It flew over my house this morning as N509BJ en-route PAE to MLH.
