None on-line that I know of...but if you can gain access to the video on Air Force One, it has a segment of George H. Bush walking through it after its delivery. Its actually pretty basic.

I don't know of any pics either, but click here for an idea of what the floor plan looks like.

I would think you might be able to contact someone at Andrews AFB or the White House and they might supply you with some official shots. But they might also tell you that it is a security issue.

I've been told that the press area is a little bit larger. I've talked to a few people that have been on the plane, and also from what I've seen of the safety card (yes, AF1 has its own safety card, and it's pretty detailed), I believe there are seats up in between where doors 1 and 2 on a standard 747 are. I'm not entirely sure though...but I do remember hearing that the plane can take 70 VIPs/members of the media.

What no escape pod?.

Seriously, there are few surprises here.

If you think of this as a large Exec jet.

Clearly, the Communications Room conceals many secrets, and "Cargo and Equipment" could mean anything.

Look for the Discovery Channel DVD on AF1. It has a walking tour of the VC-25. It's pretty indepth....and although the interior is nice, it is by no means luxurious.

Did they make him wear the AF1 Booties? The crew used to be very particular when it came to the carpet....

i dont think so SATL, but it wouldnt surprise me. but get this, a couple ramp spaces over was Japan's Air Force One, and they wouldnt let the TA guys touch the airplane with the stair truck, they made them keep it 2 inches away from the airplane. now thats anal, but Japan's jet was 10x more clean than AF1.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the AF1 interior. I would definitely make it at least look a little nicer on the interior, but then again, this is taxpayer money we're talking about, and being a democracy I think it's better that the interior looks more business-oriented.

I think somebody should publish one of those huge coffee-table books full of pictures of various official government aircraft. I'm sure some of you have seen the Sultan of Brunei's A-340? Now THAT's an official government way to trave!

If you are in the LAX/BUR area, go see and walk through the old AF1 (27000) at the Reagan library. It is well worth the visit for an A-Netter.

The interior is maintained as brand new, but it is not overly luxurious. Unfortunately they don,t allow pictures inside. It seems rather small inside when compared to the vsual impact of viewing the aircraft from the outside.

Do you think that it has any security features on that we the general public would think are stupid and myth, such as the escape pod???

There is no escape pod that we know of. From what we know its...

air refuelable
has countermeasures for missiles
the most advanced comms ever to go airborne other than the Airborne Command Posts, eg E-4B

This really isn't open to conjecture anymore. We were treated to a peek at USAF Technical Order 00-105E-9, Rev.11 Aerospace Emergency Rescue and Mishap Response Information which was inadvertently posted on a site accessible from the internet. The TO provides information essential for rescue crews, including general arrangement of crew spaces, escape provisions and hazards to personnel. Chapter 7 includes the VC-25A.

There's no escape pod or anything like that. It does have airstairs that extend from the lower deck (i.e. the cargo space) both forward and aft providing entry to compartments on that level, which in turn have stairs up to the main deck. Nothing secret about this, as Bush has been photographed using the lower-deck entry:

Thankfully, the above pictures do not come with the "state secrets" warning as the Il-96 photos in the other thread in CivAv. BTW, I think perseverance paid off in digging up this 1-1/2+ year old thread.

I can't help but notice the area of highly polished metal on both the VC-137's (saw the one at Pima) and the VC-25's. I have to wonder what it's purpose is. Laser countermeasure?

Does it need to have purpose? It just looks good...the polished metal is part of the livery. airplane

What I find interessting according to the floor plan is that there's a room for "comic book storage" right behind the cockpit. Is that really the case or not and who thought of this when they designed the whole plane? Maybe a special wish of a president?

I assume the comic book storage is the lavatory for the cockpit crew, probably some comic books hanging around there..

Yeah, makes sense when I look at older pics of the VC-137. I saw pic where the forward part of the polished section just terminated in an ugly rectangle, that made me think that maybe it had a practical purpose. I guess they must've just been repainting it or something.

That diagram of the "Sacred Cow" is a joke, but the comic book storage does indeed approximate the position of the upper deck lavatory. The diagram you provided in your reply#33 is also only very loosely accurate. For example, there is a "senior staff room" in between the galley and the conference room on level 2 which is not shown, and the dimensions of all the facilities are way off. The actual aircraft is far more intricate in design than this drawing shows. wink

I do have a copy, but please forgive me for not sharing. I'm willing to answer questions on points of curiosity, but I will not post any of the diagrams. The floorplan you posted in your reply#37 omits some detail and is not to exact dimensions, but the overall layout is correct.

Imagine what a 748i as an AF-1 would be like?
Skyloft area could be used!

Too bad this one probably won't get retired for another 15 to 20 years. By then it will be the oldest 742 out there!

Questions?
Where is the galley?
Pre-cooked or freshly made?
Air Force cooks? White House Cooks? Tug Boat cooks? Submarine cooks? or LH Sky Chefs?

Under Clinton did they do away with the galley and just have a McDonalds? McDonalds does catering...remember ATL olympics?

There's no shortage of space on the VC-25A. The belly is used as a lower deck...lots of room there!

Looking at the diagram in Keesje's reply#37, it is just forward of the "senior staff meeting room".

Yes, I know, but I preferred not to advertise that fact...they really shouldn't be! The perils of living in a free country I suppose. At least this manual doesn't reveal the details of the lower deck. wink

Has anyone ever taken these photos and tried to composite them into some sort of walkthrough computer model of the airplane? Obviously some parts would not be pictured, but you could probably get most of the main deck.
