@ Keesje
Gee...you didn't post the details of the anti-missile system. Thanks for that small mercy.

The photos are great and much appreciated. As for the tech manual, please stop. pray  white

Skyloft area could be used!

My thoughts exactly! I have a feeling that with electronics getting smaller and giving off less heat, the "sky lofts" would be utilized to have the same components/capabilities as the E-4B "Doomsday" aircraft.

The VC-25A's were loosely derived from the E-4B and share several systems in common. The VC-25A already has the essential "doomsday" communications capability, which is one reason why the E-4B is being retired. There is no need for more space, and hence no need to replace the VC-25A. airplane

That thing is nicer than some office buildings.

If I were president, I would spend all 4 years on board AF1. Let someone else have the white house.

This is an old thread, but a favorite of mine (thanks, Keesje!) I had the extreme pleasure of touring one of these aircraft while it was being built up, and I have to say it's amazing how much security has relaxed over the past...yikes, is it really 20 years? Once upon a time having a camera on your person could get you arrested - no question of actually taking photos!

I do hope that some of the people discussing the replacement "Air Force One" will take note of all the gadgetry visible in these photos. Trust me that there is far more than what meets our eyes, and you might have some inkling of the complexity of the wiring in the VC-25A. These aircraft simply are not comparable to a commerical B747.

Great symbolism.

How so?

He sure loves playing the part: wearing the jacket, eating anything he wants whenever he wants, etc. It's tough to put him in sequence with Reagan, HW, and W. If anything, he belongs up at the top of the thread with Carter.

Going through these pictures, it's fascinating to look at all the different presidents and the photos capturing the exact situations they've faced while on board.
