The B 52. Still In Production?

Tue May 08, 2001 2:30 pm

There are still AWFUL LOT of B 52s around. However, are they still in production? From what I have heard, they are still making newer versions of it.

Any idea?

Dear United Airline,
the B-52s production ended in the '60s with the delivery of the H model, the only one still in service. The USAF plans to go on using it for a lot of time to come so they planned a series of upgrades and updates to the avionics despite it would need a new powerplant as well. Boeing proposed a reengining with RR RB.211 turbofan but untill now the USAF has declined the offer.

Ciao

Stefano

B-52 powerplant upgrade was not taken up because of the number of powerplants the USAF has in stock for it. Those stocks are also getting larger as more and more B707s and DC8s make it into AMARC and are stripped.
