I presume they are recycled? I mean it’s not like they are sold off secondhand to second- and third-tier airlines, and the market for memorabilia cannot alone consume them all. So, I presume, they are sold to scrappers and recycled.

AA’s DFW to LIM outbound (AA909) follows this pattern, arriving just after midnight, but the return (AA350) doesn’t depart LIM until 08:00 the next day, the aircraft spending seven and a half hours on the ground in LIM.

It happens in “developed” countries, too. AF4590 (the Concorde tragedy) was over its MTOW, although I am not sure if that was a factor in the incident.
