In some post I read that UA is soon getting rid of their 762's. I'll be flying one soon going to <acronym title="New York - John F. Jump to postDo JetBlue employees who name the next plane get a free trip to Europe to pick up the next Airbus? So I was told by someone I know who works for JetBlue.
Jump to postI hope a lot of you remember when people dressed up to fly. Nowadays you have people who shouldn't be wearing spandex doing just that. Or t-shirts and flip flops. These are usually the same people with carry-on bag the size of a Manhattan studio apartment and try to stuff them into the overheads. Am...
Jump to postI will throw my hat into the anti Southwest hat. It is a great airline in many ways, but the cattle call just sucks. NW is many ways a good airline, but I find their service and interiors a little behind. I hope this changes with the 330's. Frankly...
Jump to postSAS was the launch customer for 736. Traditionally SAS was flying MD80's/DC-9's before the 737. Braathens flies the 500's as NorthStar mentioned, but SAS colors are only 736's (and 737-700 and 800's as well). I have flown countless 735 on United. Mostly from <acronym title="Newark - Liberty Internat...

Jump to postI guess the fisheye lense is what made a 707 look like a 747 (from the bottom). I'd have to see the show again to make sure, though. I thought I remember the ladning gear having too many wheels for a 707, but it looks I'm wrong based on the above responses to my question.
Jump to postI hope some of you are old enough to remember Jack Lord's Hawaii Five-O. The show started in the fall of 1968. In the opening credits you see a 747. How could a 747 be at Honolulu Int'l in 1968? I thought the first commericial flights were in 1969 or 1970
Jump to postI know this isn't the place to discuss baseball, but go Tigers??? They might just beat the '62 Mets for the most losses in a season.
Uhh, anyway, cool that the Tigers have their own DC-9.
Anyone who lives in NYC area knows that CO flies the only baseball team that counts - The Yankees.
For Boeing the timing is good since Airbus is pretty much using its capital to develop the A380. I believe Airbus has stated they will develop a new widebody jet towards the end of this decade to replace the A330/A340 (and I suppose the A300/310) if necessary. This assume the 7E7 is taking the major...
Jump to postI'd give my left you-know-what to fly on the Concorde. 60,000 feet up! Wow!
Jump to postI would imagine the 732's are being phased-out. I'm curious why go through the expense of painting. Airlines need save every penny!
A question was asked why UA and AA didn't buy any 764's, I wonder why any airline would buy 764's over 772's. Don't get me wrong, I love the 767 series. The 2-3-2 seating is in my opinion the best sea...

Jump to postExcept for Concorde!
To clearify, if you look at the 747's overall package (cmax cruising speed, ceiling, range, # of passengers, etc), I don't think you will find one plane that honestly say it is better.
I believe the 747's have the best performance. Does anyone fly higher and faster? I don't think the Airbus competition does, not even the 777.
Any thoughts?

Jump to postIf NW could have avoided taking the 330's, I am sure they would have jumped in and taken Delta's MD-11, or perhaps even more DC-10-30's to replace the 747-200 fleet. But there was no likelyhood of Airbus...
Jump to postWith NWA's obvious liking of McDonald Douglas planes, I'm surprised they never picked up some used MD11's along the way. Maybe Airbus would have flipped if NWA kept delaying their 15 year old widebody order.
NWA is the last of the airlines to modernize their fleet. I believe NWA has a policy of keeping and maintaining planes longer. The question, perhaps, should be - is this a smart move? A 35 year old DC-9 has gone through a lot of take-offs and landings. Therefore, a lot of maintains. While it is cool...
