I guess there is a reason why single engine VFR is prohibited in the EU. During my US CFI days in the late '80s the PPL license required 1 hour of VFR night training. Although it's decades ago now I still remember being rather uneasy during those flights.
Jump to postNext week’s national elections will determine in which direction the aviation industry in NL will proceed. Personally I’m not very optimistic.
Jump to postDutch aviation site Luchtvaartnieuws reports that KL may lose up to a quarter of its flights to the US next summer season. They claim to have several sources in the US and NL. The full article is behind a paywall unfortunately.

I’m hoping KLM can fly to SEA, DEN, MCO, PHL and maybe even BNA.

From the picture, it seems to be in the grass, but undamaged.
Jump to postNorthern Italy is notorious for its large hail during the summer season, major damage at the popular campsites around Lake Garda is not uncommon. Pictures from this week show tennisball size hailstones.
Jump to postWell, the Dutch coalition government fell today, so there won’t be any big decisions until after new elections, probably sometime this fall. In the meantime things will stay as they were.
Jump to postAwful..
Just one question though: TS makes mention of CPR, but what about the AED?
Many dutch political parties think airlinecrew make too much money and this is a way to blackmail KL (which has no problem with the current payscales) into forcing large paycuts. Insane.

I’m not talking about premium-eco/business here, but just the standard economy seat, which obviously is the choice of the the far majority of customers. It’s actually quite funny that in this particular case the typical ‘charter’ passenger is better off than people who are flying on the legacy airli...

Jump to postWell for starters, I (and many others on this forum) would be out of a job if all private aviation would be banned. I suspect it would also cause the pilot shortage to become even worse, seeing as though private aviation is where many new pilots build time with more senior pilots before reaching th...
Jump to postholczakker wrote:Let's hope to see the Dutch government give back the land they stole from nature, huh?
A few years ago KLM ditched the order for 7 A350 in favor of the B787, because it was an impractical size for a subfleet. Now you have to establish a whole new Airbus ecosystem @AMS for only 4 planes, while the B77F would fit perfectly in the existing Boeing WB ecosystem. Something doesn’t add up. ...
Jump to postThe main reason MP has chosen the 350F over the 777-8F is availability. Regarding noise issues at AMS, the technical state of the current 744Fs and sole BCF MP/KL cannot afford to wait for the -8F. This is from the horse’s mouth, Paul van der Wardt, MP General Manager. And of course, ‘Paris’ could a...

Definately not subsidized, demand is high and the two airlines that operate the routes squeeze capacity enough to keep prices up. Personally I fly to BON once or twice a year and flights are almost always full. Yes, I know loadfactor never tells the whole story. But the fact that the Antillian popul...

Jump to postAnd the chaos at AMS continues today. This afternoon KL has cancelled all inbound shorthaul flights, citing the situation at the airport. 3 pilots on board does not equate to 3 in the flight deck though. Wasn’t it mentioned upthread that ...

Elbers always likes to pride himself on how efficient his mainline pilot groups are with just one short haul group (737) and soon one for longhaul (777/787). I may be wrong but aren’t these aircraft the only passenger 744ER aircraft built? Could that mean a cargo conversion to BCF or BDSF would need to be certified seperately?
