In terms of deferred production costs, there is no line item in the Boeing accounts to repay the Japanese Government the subsidy, so the deferred production costs in the Boeing accounts are not a true representation of the full production costs. People need to realize that it was a complete rebranding and not just a new livery. The livery is of medium importance at best. Many here forget going CF wasn't only about weight but also lower maintenance and now its being seen by the airlines in their operating costs. That's better marketing than all the glossy brochures. Airbus could match the price but wasn't willing to. And that is all there is to it. Airbus could have easily make the change to the A330-900 or to the A359. They did not. The actions by Boeing are leaving the A330-800 without a customer which is what Boeing was aiming for in this by itself no doubt...

My money is on a split board within Lufthansa on this one and that it has plenty of opposition from within as well as support. If that were true something would have leaked out to the media very soon. Or the change would not have been put into effect in the company at all. You are just speculating ...

I think one way to look at it is that despite LH being an airline, it realized that most interaction with the airline has very little to do with the outside of the airplane. I wouldn’t be surprised if they worked on digital channels, crew uniforms, airport signage, and cabin items+ interiors first,...
