Surprising that Qantas would have spare A380 Capacity for charters, with 14 787-9's and 8 out of 10 A380's available for all their LHR and USA flights. Those 787-9 also fly almost daily to Santiago & Johannesburg too.

The late 1990's GE was because of Jack Welch trading at 40 Price to earnings ratio. When the next CEO came along he bought everything high and sold cheap. It was a disaster. The Spinoffs of the different divisions should have happened long ago.

LATAM has large Brazilian operation but at its core its is based in Chile. They have operations in most countries in South America's west coast, merging all that with GOL & Azul would require an act of Congress in Washington plus many parliaments in Europe. Buy a lottery your odds are better.

United purchased London Heathrow from PA with that hub's flights to Germany. Delta got the FRA hub with flights to many cities in Eastern Europe, those were mostly flown by 727-200 via FRA. After the FRA hub was dismantled some were flown nonstop from JFK with 767's.

The reason Delta is relying so much on Seoul and Korean Air is their lack of a true west coast hub allowing nonstop flights to places like Singapore and Hong Kong. Neither Delta's LAX or Seattle hubs similar to UA's SFO gateway. Delta's strength is flying from ATL and DTW to Asia with A350-900's.

Great JAL will standardize with Flagship A350-900/1000 on their long haul flights. If the A350-1000 currently used to JFK is a guide things are looking bright in for JAL's long haul flights. Can't wait to fly after flying their 77W in First Class 3 times.

If this happens it would be another large long time 777-300ER fleet operator replacing their fleet with A350's. EVA was the first and won't the last. If this doesn't set off alarm bells in Seattle and Washington DC then we should just surrender our aerospace industry.

Great news for the 777-9 program and Ethiopian Airlines. Didn't see this one coming, will this be the only 777-9 fleet in Africa ? A350 & 787 cover most long haul needs from and to Africa vey well, a plane the 777-9 size is a niche machine. Maybe SAA or Egypt Air in the future.

Frankfurt is the closet large intercontinental hub to Eastern Europe. CDG, AMS and LHR really only work if you are going west to America, not so well if India and the Orient are your destination. These days with Russian airspace closed to EU airlines being east counts more.

AA never went for the 737-900ER sticking to the 737-800 and 737-8 MAX. They should stay with the Max 8 and leave the longer stuff to their large A321 fleet. The 737-10 would bring what to AA ?

The 787-10 is a no brainer for AA. They have plenty of Europe routes that could use the additional capacity, and the CASM benefit of the 787-10 is great. What hub would you place it in? The A350 is the hot airplane right now but not everyone needs ultra long range Like Cathay Pacific. The 787-10 is capable of flying almost everything from North America to Tokyo plus all the Atlantic.

AA has enough 787-9 to fly whatever 8,000 mile Pacific routes the future brings. A 787-10 would replace the 777-200ER very well since most are used to Europe and deep Latin America. Expecting to see many 787-10 at EZE & GRU tanning all day as the 777 do today.

Eastern's tenure in Latin America is not something to remember proudly, the whole way Eastern ended with Frank Lorenzo was sad. AA taking over was the best thing to happen to Miami in decades, 777 flights to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires & London. AA bought a much better airline experience to Miami.

However LAX is sliced between the US3 three international destinations dominate: Tokyo Haneda, London Heathrow and Sydney. CDG, FRA et all are more driven by alliances. SFO is an entirely United dominated hub with flights before Covid to Tel Aviv and Bangalore nonstop. Two very different situations.

United is better letting things be and use Houston as their primary Latin Hub. Flights to GRU & EZE from their strong hubs of EWR, ORD, IAH and Dulles are better with nonstop service. Mexico is flown from all primary hubs to so many cities I couldn't name them all.

Does anyone know how many 787-9 or 787-10 are in this order ? Doubtful any 787-8 would be ordered as Thai already has 8 787-8 plus 2 787-9 with Rolls engines. The order is with the GE engines which have proven so reliable.
