Looking at FR24 -- it appears they diverted shortly before entering Indian airspace, flew direct over Sri Lanka and then on to Indonesia/Singapore -- where they did some loops before landing.

I'm able to access it from the UK ... so it's not likely to be GDPR-related.

Note that it's a secured (HTTPS) site, so if your ISP forces HTTP (as is the case in some countries that aren't so happy with web traffic being encrypted) you probably won't be able to access it.

It's happened to me a couple of times. Most memorable was flying CX SFO - HKG - TPE in 2000. Same A343 the whole way. Obviously different crews.

Last weekend my parents flew EK JNB - DXB - LHR and they were on A6-EOB the whole way if I remember correctly. First time they've ever flown EK!

This was very likely a charter airline (Do we know which one it was?), and I am not familiar with ticketing procedures for these. So according to OAG, SIN - KUL is the world's busiest route in terms of number of average daily flights.

However, TPE - HKG is (still) the busiest in terms of passenger numbers. 6.5 million flew between TPE and HKG in the year up to February 2018.

On a recent trip to South Africa I flew B-KQT HKG-JNB and then the same aircraft JNB-HKG two weeks later (incidentally on its next JNB rotation!) I was also in exactly the same seat.

My family is on AF995 (JNB - CDG) currently, and when searching for the flight, I noticed an AF995A replacing AF995 which was cancelled on 05 Dec.

I'm assuming the aircraft is coming back to the US from overseas (conversion perhaps?) -- it makes sense to park it at a gate to allow the crew to go through passport and customs controls. I guess they'd also need to file the paperwork for importing the aircraft.

With an electric engine you get maximum torque at 0rpm so going uphill is no problem. I am thinking there is more power needed to drive uphill. That power comes from the engine. The higher RPM of the engine makes the car go and accelerate uphill. I am missing something, but what? I'm not sure where...

There's also the fact that there's a tropical storm causing some upset at the moment ... which could account for it as well. The storm is in the vicinity of HKG today, so they might have flown around it.
