Re: San Diego Thread - 2018

Surprised this didn't make it on the thread. Bird strike for LH466 forces it to return to FRA. After 5 hour delay, a 333 is substituted for the 343. I wasn't aware a 333 could make it from SAN to FRA but maybe it took off light. Incident: Lufthansa A343 near Amsterdam on May 17th 2018, engine vibra...

Re: SMF Roaring Out of the Gate in 2018

Numbers are in for April. Eight straight months of double-digit growth for Sacramento. Total passengers 967,481 making April 2018 the best April in SMF history. That's up 11.5% YoY. Southwest up 15.5%. United up 12.6%. Delta up 12.6%. Year to date traffic up 11.9% over 2017. Of note, Hawaiian LF abo...

Re: FAT Traffic Another Record in Q1

As someone who does a lot of E75 flying (albeit, not for four plus hours), I have to say it is becoming one of my favorite birds. Without it, I doubt Alaska is operating SAN-SMF, nor is United operating FAT-CHI. With it, and should this long-awaited new service to Chicago prove successful, look for ...

Re: Iran - Boeing deal

The misunderstanding of the American governmental system is astounding. First off, the deal wasn’t a legal treaty to begin with. Obama couldn’t even get his own party to go with it, much less convert the 20ish Republican Senators necessary for the deal to be a treaty. Therefore calling the deal a t...

Re: Watch Out, Airlines. High Speed Rail Now Rivals Flying on Key Routes

Freedom is relative. With a car you don't have the freedom to have a drink whenever you fancy. You are often restricted when it comes to parking you vehicle. Cars are expensive, both in purchase and in operation. You can't work, have dinner in the restaurant, watch a movie, browse the internet, go ...

Re: President Trump will meet with the Southwest passenger survivors and the crew

I like the fact that the captain was a conservative evangelical Christian and she was at the top of her game and it again showed real strong talented women are conservative. Don’t have to be a silly superficial upper east side rich white liberal to be a feminist. One has zero to do with the other. ...

Re: Virgin America Farewell Flight 24 April VX 1948 SFO-LAX

For those of us who loved Virgin America, today is a sad day. Although rueful, we are celebrating a glorious 10 years and will be on the final flight tonight, VX 1948, leaving SFO at 9:32 and bound for LAX. Jess and I will make the quick trip up to SFO this afternoon, and then enjoy the festivities ...

International carriers holding own with 12.2 growth this year to date. Alaska/Skywest (Much of this SAN-SMF) up an astounding 76%. Freight up Yo...

Re: Q400 vs Embraer 175-E2: Death of The Quiet One?

I typically fly the Q400 into STS from SAN on a monthly basis. I am actively working various meeting schedules so that my May trip is post May 20 as that is when the aircraft changes from a Q400 to a E175 (doesn't look good btw). I fly the 175 with regularity throughout the west and to me, there is ...

Yeesh... I have seen so many good sites destroyed by politics rearing its ugly head, so I admit to some hesitation to joining this conversation, but anyone wants to cling to the ludicrous notion that the butcher who runs Syria with a bloody cleaver didn't, for the second time in two years, brutalize...

Yawn... "60 Minutes?" I tried watching it again a couple of years ago. Seemed more like 90. The Allegiant team seems to have been pretty successful turning things around so far. I don't think they're too worried.

LA City Council Approves People Mover for LAX

By 2023, you could skip the traffic mess at LAX. Today the LA City Council authorized up to $4.9 Billion to build, maintain and operate a people mover to take travelers from the terminals to the Metro Station at 96th Street and Aviation Blvd in about 10 minutes. Construction starts this year with of...

I've caught Speedbird a few times on this northerly routing, but probably no more than half-a-dozen times in the last year or so. I often check because when it does, I can it i can watch them from my home in University Heights, which is just south of the main flight path into Lindbergh at about 6000...

Re: When do we start seeing the new AS interiors and food

Wasn't my call, but when the Q400s were ordered, the thought was that for their short segment lengths, hand sanitizer dispensers would be sufficient. I don't believe there's any plan to change that since the Q400s will be kept on even shorter stage lengths than they are today. They’re finally leavi...

Re: When do we start seeing the new AS interiors and food

I've been flying Virgin America since Feb 2008, both intra-California and transcontinental through SFO. There was nothing like RED back then, and it was quite the unique and innovative experience in the sky. But over the last 10 years, it didn't really change much and now feels rather sadly antiquat...

They've also really stepped-up in the cabin experience on these short flights. This morning on SAN-SMF, we got a fruit plate with yogurt, followed by a strawberry-banana smoothie. Beats Hell out of the old scone! Clearly some of VX is rubbing off on AS...

Re: SMF Roaring Out of the Gate in 2018

Thanks everyone for the welcome, and for the insightful replies. Were I a betting man (and I am), I'd put a couple of bucks on HOU as the next announced new destination, and I think there's still time for this summer. If HOU were to go with 2x/day, that gets SMF to around 85/day flights spread over ...

Re: San Diego Thread - 2018

Was looking ahead to book my May 2018 flights to Santa Rosa (STS) and noticed that effective May 20, the service is upguaged to an E175. It's a 5:00pm departure, which means still an overnight stay to do business, but such a HUGE improvement over the good 'ol Q400. I haven't been on a flight at less...
