Re: Southwest Airlines going Peanut Free!

I get where you're coming from. I guess it boils down to limiting liability and solving a health concern all at the same time. The chances of someone pulling out peanuts next to someone with a peanut allergy are obviously greatly lower than someone having a reaction when everyone has nuts. Yeah, li...

Re: Will Southwest entry into Hawaii speed up merger discussions of HA with B6

I said this earlier as well...they don't cap redemptions on any flight, right? Their yields could be absolute crap. There's an indirect contribution to revenue from frequent flyer redemptions in that the miles held by program members generally must be treated as liabilities on the airline balance s...

Re: Southwest Finally Announces Intentions to Serve Hawaii

I have to agree that the idea of HA gouging the inter-island market is ludicrous. I live on Oahu with family on Maui. I routinely see sub $200 round trip fares on HA between HNL-OGG and vis versa. The flight is about 25 minutes wheels up to wheels down. I got stuck at ORD once on my way to MSN wher...

Re: Southwest Finally Announces Intentions to Serve Hawaii

Ummm, maybe "gouge" is too strong of a word but HA has definitely used its monopoly pricing power to make interisland travel much less affordable (and I'm not referring to the money losing $30 fares) than it was when there was competition. That's not to say Southwest or United or any othe...

Re: Southwest is given permit for space at HNL

Riiiight... because AS and HA for that matter are just going to lay down and let WN come into the Hawaii market from any West Coast station and steal their lunch... While Hawaii is an important market for AS it is the only market for HA. Expect HA to ruthlessly defend its marketshare against WN fro...

Re: Southwest is given permit for space at HNL

I think I agree with ibthebigd, they will announce HNL at the end of May. And I'm sure they will start flying as early at the second week in June. It's not going to be hard for them to sell tickets that fast. I think we can expect to see LAX-HNL, OAK-HNL, and LAS-HNL at first. While LAX sometime ha...

Re: Southwest orders more 737 Max 8s and defers 737 Max 7s

I thought they had said in a press release that the MAX7s were going to head to Hawaii? Normal 800s are being configured to fly to Hawaii, no MAX yet... So much for the other thread talking about SW ordering A-321's I don't like saying never, but don't see this happening anytime soon Maybe WN wants...

Re: Chances WN launches TATL?

Those that say that WN is highly unlikely to EVER try TATL are missing the mark I think. WN has changed a lot over just the last 5 years, so who knows what WN will look like in the next decade. If you all could see the projects that are going on behind the scenes that most of you on this website ar...

Re: Southwest Finally Announces Intentions to Serve Hawaii

[ Regardless, if I'm going to Hawaii, I'm flying DL. There's no way I can manage to sit on a 737MAX with nothing to do for the length of that flight.  Other than 1 bag that flies free, does WN offer any onboard amenities for free? Alcohol, food, in-seat IFE? Better than paying ...
