Reuters: Airbus is studying A321XLR with extended range over LR

Earlier today, the CEO of JetBlue mentioned that Airbus was floating the idea of an XLR (Extra Long Range) model of the A321. Has anyone else heard of this? I can't seem to find anything on it.

It's rather easy to visit to be honest. All you have to do, for jetBlue at least, is just go up to the dedicated desk in FLL and pay the Visa fee. Done. Enjoy your trip. The limiting factor for ORD is gate space, they only have 1 gate assigned, although they borrow from NK if needed for IRROPS purposes. I think from memory they do 9 to 10 turns a day on that one gate. Remember folks in places like ORD, ATL, DFW, LGA they are not there to build an operation, they ar...

Pardon my ignorance - only because I'm trying to learn airline networks - what constitutes a "missed opportunity" and "getting beat to a route"? Can jetBlue still open the route with Alaska already on it but succeed because of times, product offering, connections, etc?
