We do this at PRC with our 200s. Many other line stations serviced by the Mormon Air Force also do this. We don't have Jetways or terminal-attached bridges, so as soon as we get the mobile boarding bridge, and other equipment out of the way, we have a whole ramp to play with.

In all seriousness, poor handling on Delta's part. Then again, inherent risks exist with air cargo transportation, as with all other forms of cargo transportation. Losses are bound to happen, although it does look like this one was avoidable.

When an airline schedules two captains to fly a route, does crew scheduling determine a PIC? If so how do they determine this? If not, how is PIC determined and at what point? If PIC is dictated by crew scheduling, can the crew change the PIC prior to, or on the day of the trip?

It's been a strategy both NW and Delta have used. I can speak more on the Delta side of things. Post 1970, Delta continues to invest loads of money into upkeeping and renewing older aircraft. I want to say the oldest -88 frame in the fleet now is about to turn 40.

It will be painted and polished for display at the Delta Flight Museum. As cool as it would be to have a flying example, that is simply not going to happen.
