Re: Southwest misses on Q4 Earnings

A lot of the cutting has been on longer, low-frequency routes, primarily so they have to cut fewer flights/routes and can reaccomodate passengers over other hubs. It's been stuff like BNA-BUR or IND-OAK. Correct. The cuts are driven by fleet utilization. Cutting longer, low-frequency routes allowed...

Ex-LAX to HNL, in F, if you can't book DL 611 in F (1-2-1, full lie-flat, full foot rest, big LCD), HA's 332s are next best, half a footrest, 2-2-2, and an iPad). Intra-island on a 737 works but back and forth to the mainland is painfull. 4 hours on a 737. Yuk!! 4 hours? Have they bumped the speed of a 737 up a LOT? Agree. WN may not launch Hawaii service from LAX, but they need to serve Hawaii ex-LAX in the long term. First, though, the low hanging fruit, esp. ONT., even less than daily. Leisure and VFR can accommodate <7x, and avoid the "parking lot" commute.

IMO WN's Hawaii service has made HA even more dependent on the F cabin. HA's replacement of A332 lie-flats with A321 recliners in F on some city pairs (e.g., HNL/SEA, HNL/SFO) is probably causing attrition in F traffic (pax looks for a better value).

MU's HNL/PVG fares were always on the north side of cheap. One stops HNL/PVG had significantly better soft product for less money... so traffic on that MU route was almost entirely O&D tour groups from PVG. Not sustainable, but interesting to see MU tails at HNL.

Agreed... but the operators (airlines) and regulators run on statistics. If the CCP statisticians provide the right numbers, CAAC, CA, MU, CZ, Comac, et al., jump onboard.
My guess is that SP commercial ops is already in some Five Year Plan in China.

Not an R2D2 or bounty droid, but a human. I think droid ops at Creech are one pilot flying one drone. The real risk arises in one (remote) pilot flying as multiple "FOs".
