I would disagree that many base pilots returned to Hong Kong. Even those who resided in HK for years and moved to bases did not get return visas. The vast majority of base pilots were cut loose with no regard of seniority or longevity with the company. CX has treated the pilot group like riff raff....

The outlook doesn't look particularly bright at the moment given the HK government's staunch stance on trying to keep COVID completely contained (0 cases) - definitely wont help the aviation sector compared to the more 'managing risk' approach taken by SG recently... I don't think the long haul configured A333 are 'bad' by any means. I'm guessing there is some confusion over the regionally configured and long haul configured frames. In 2018 I was heading to Koh Samui (USM) in Thailand and wanted to catch the 734 on TG from BKK- I chose not to go with the direct flight from HKG on purpose and flew to BKK on a separate ticket first, then checked myself in again at BKK for the quick 50 minute dash on the classic 737.

Seeing an aircraft from the airside of the terminal more like a scavenger hunt- I thought I was in an airport, not a shopping mall!
Really dislike the windows overviewing the tarmac to be hidden behind security check, makes spotting from the terminal an impossible task.

I don't really see a place for the 789 since its not that far off the A359 in size, and mid-long haul A330s have been increasingly replaced by the A350 (both 900 and 1000) within CX anyway.
