Re: Airline Pilots Bidding Down to Smaller Aircraft

But back on thread - it happens but very rarely in my experience. I’ve only ever known one person to leave a widebody command to go all the way back to turboprops. That was a Cathay B744 skipper who’s wife was sadly very ill so he came to fly J41s based in Cardiff so he could be near her for the las...

Re: Airline Pilots Bidding Down to Smaller Aircraft

Completely incorrect! The personal tax allowance is currently about £11,000 and that’s the point you start paying tax at 20%. Higher rate tax at 40% kicks in at around £40,000 of taxable income. There is no real or effective tax rate of 60% for anyone moving to a £100,000 salary. I don’t know if yo...

Re: Airline Pilots Bidding Down to Smaller Aircraft

Since when did we have a 60% income tax rate in the UK? He was referring to the marginal rate of tax on earned income between £100,000 & £123,000 which you generally feel the full impact of when you move right to left seat in the UK. Because you lose your personal allowance completely it works ...

Re: Virgin Atlantic network going downhill?

You can look at the financials for VS and say they don't make much money but the missing figures from that judgment are how many extra seats they sell on the Delta network. For the investment Delta made to buy 49% of Virgin, about $360m, the list price on an A350-1000 it must look pretty good on th...

Re: Virgin Atlantic network going downhill?

I'd say its a part - but they will also be receiving compensation for this which would be included in their figures. No it won't be. I asked the CFO that exact question at a conference after he said that the compensation figure would never be publicly disclosed. Assuming he was telling the truth (w...

Re: VS to switch LAS to LHR in S19 ?

I am surprised they are dropping 3rd daily LAX flight. They don’t have much premium capacity as it is and the 3rd flight helped give them enough J seats - yields must not have been good - and probably too much Y capacity. As someone has already alluded to the chances are it coincides with the intro...

Would someone mind explaining why another operator would want to buy Norwegian’s Frequent Flyer/rewards program?
What value is there in it other than to DY themselves??

Re: Virgin Atlantic Post £28million Loss, First in 4 Years

Delta makes billions a year net profit. This is even less than spare change. And overall in the bigger scheme of the Delta and VA cooperation, the extra profis that Delta makes off VA customers might be even bigger or almost equal to this loss, or not, who knows. Its hard to exactly see how they gu...

I suggest you post your question on a particular pilot specific website - they have a 'Medical & Health' forum.
Trust me, someone will have gone through the same thing.
Good luck!

Re: Are Virgin Atlantics A330's useless?

Absolutely, and the EVP flt ops has been quoted as saying on sectors below 9hrs the A330 is more cost effective when you take into account the leasing fees. I've also been in the room when the same chap said if they had their time again they wouldn't buy the 787 and would have ordered more 330s as w...
