Re: Questionable (Failed?) USA Mergers

"1) AA relocates from NYC to DFW in early 80's"

1979
7) Totally forget the airline name....but AA did acquire some Caribbean airline pre deregulation, so it had a fairly strong presence

Trans- Carribean Airlines

Looks like a half-baked "solution". Three years??? why bother w/the investment?

Re: Complete Listing of Braniff Jellybean Colors Wanted

One 727 was painted dark brown w/white tail at Boeing, but the color was changed to medium blue (?) before delivery. I've seen a pic of it in Braniff: Flying Colors. Think the color was changed for bit too obvious reason.

I vote for Dallas Love Field. DL did operate it here in early 1970s. (and it could have 'fun' with WN....)

Greater Southwest International just south of DFW. Piece of N-S runway and taxiway still there just off SH183 service road.

It's better than Braniff's Calder livery. JMO

Re: Braniff History Question - 747 Schedule April 1969

BN did lease an AA 747 in 1978 to start DFW - LHR service. The book "Braniff Airways Flying Colors" shows a pic of the plane in AA silver with a big BI in black on the tail and titles in black near the front, plus an orange stripe over the AA tricolor.

Re: Braniff History Question - 747 Schedule April 1969

IIRC BN didn't have a 747 in 1969 (AA didn't start 747 service until March 1970). The Hawaii service was likely started w-707's.

If you don't already have it, get "A Splash of Colors" - a book about BN's history.

"We're keeping both for sure" -------for the time being. Suspect AS will try to eventually consolidate at DAL, depending on other factors.

For a short while we had "Ft Worth Airlines" operating out of FTW to HOU back in the '80s. Don't think it lasted long.

Just don't see B6 getting gate space at DAL. Not with the AS possibility especially, plus the current legal case.
