Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2019

Looking at what F9 is doing in CLE with an impressive network of approximately 20 cities including up to double daily in markets such as MCO, TPA, RSW as well as 10x weekly to LAS I think their strategy in PIT is to have people drive to CLE. People are driving up there for F9 and it's the only reas...

Re: Cleveland Aviation Thread - 2019

FWIW Flew MSP to CLE via F9, drove to Pittsburgh. Impossible to resist the low fares. My thoughts on my first Cleveland airport experience: The good: Convenient access to 480 and within driving distance to several big cities. Nice small airport, clean, nice layout. The bad: The wait at security was ...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2019

FWIW I'm visiting parents in PIT this weekend, from MSP. I'm flying F9 into Cleveland, then taking a rental the two hours and driving the rest of the way. After tax for my wife and I it was about $80 each way, add a $140 rental for 5 days makes the total cost about $462. Kids fly free promotion (3 o...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

Sitting at my parents house under the 5 mile final to 28L. I knew the runway was closed so it's been quiet other then the takeoffs the past few days. Today the silence broken as Mike Pence flew in on 28L. It was quite a suprise. But now three more coming in... did they finish up early or is this tem...

Re: SWA Routing question

looking at flights from ORD to PIT (not SWA) it looks like that shortcut is common, so not a SWA thing - I understand the southern shift to avoid DTW, but why not permanently route something shorter and further south of DTW - say OTENS to ACO since its on the way and a transition for the JESEY3. Wha...

SWA Routing question

I will be flying KMDW to KPIT next week, so I have been watching SWA's regular flights on this route on FlightAware. The filed flight route is always the same: LEWKE GIJ OTENS ANEWA RIEKE DJB ACO JESEY3 I've noticed every time after OTENS it seems they get clearance to short-cut the route, typically...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

Reading through the list of NOTAMS I can see why 32 is closed for anyone other then those going to Atlantic. Taxi B & C closed between V and B1, F is closed as well. With B & C closed, and 28L closed along with F, all departures must be going out on 10C and must use E to get there. E between...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

Yes, 28L is notam closed until then. Departures are using 28C except for anything coming out of Atlantic that can use N to get up to 28R 32 is only taking arrivals out of operational necessities most of the day. So Cargo and Business jets and the few liars who insist on landing on it. "operati...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

All runway ops have been a bit out of whack since early February due to the Charlie pad being reconstructed and 28R not being able to take departures. This has caused RWY 28C or 28L to become the main departure runways and they seem reluctant to let any exceptions take 28L (I've heard multiple AA a...

Sweet - I see that in the aerial. Not as picturesque as Ewing but could be beneficial to have flight traffic funneled to 28R. What are the odds in being chased out by security?

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

28L is closed at the moment. When you drive along the hill near the approach end you can see the giant flashing "X" sign. There might be some construction nearby necessitating the closure . It is also the runway in need of a total re-build in the near future. The ACAA is proposing to clos...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

A conspiracy theory question that maybe someone can shine a light on- I grew up under the approach for 28L, my parents still live there. I have friends who also lived under that approach. I know volumes have decreased over the past 10 years compared to when I have grown up there in the USAir heyday ...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

True but that's just the nature of how business is conducted these days. The thing too is that there really isn't a good canidate that would launch a PIT-MSP route. NK doesn't seem to be interested in adding any additional capacity outside of Florida so maybe Sun Country? Even that I'm not sure wou...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread - 2018

Why hasn't anyone identified the fact that Delta has a monopoly on the PIT - MSP route? Delta is the ONLY airline that has a direct flight. As a result there are no cheap flights from MSP to PIT unless you want to fly through Chicago (SWA). Even going the cheap route through Chicago, you still have ...

Re: PIT Update Discussion Thread Part 34

Transplanted Pittsburger, I grew up 5 miles east of the airport, beneath 28L. Many memories of seeing lines of planes 7-8 long lining up to land, parallel to another 7 going for 28R. Also, memories of swinging by Resurrection Road and parking beneath 32 getting blown away by lines of planes coming i...
