Well Cathay Pacific already flies to: Boston Chicago Los Angeles Newark New York (K) San Francisco Washington (D) That leaves a lot of holes geographically. There are a number of cities I didn't list because they are strictly only cargo. Could those cities get a priority? Cities like Dallas? Atlant...Jump to post
Surprised BA is higher than KE. Thought BA was going to slide to around 50 this year.Jump to post
Yeah in all honesty I don't know how AI can compete with UA/DL/EK for BOM-EWR, especially for business traffic (which is where much of the revenue will be generated). This flight previously thrived due to AMD connection and lack of stiff non-stop competition. With UA and DL upping their game, I woul...Jump to post
Well in 2019, due to DXB airport runway upgrade project, EK will reduce frequencies on many routes which includes all points in India except BOM. Perhaps they know that with United Polaris and Delta One being together at BOM in 2019, EK might have tough time attracting business travellers. Real pre...Jump to post
In the US, all routes except LAX, SFO, SEA, IAH, and EWR seem to be getting reductions. Many more destinations around the world too.
Generally for US flights, 1/7 of flights will be dropped.

So do we think this is in response to a potential Delta JFK-BOM nonstop (meaning competing for Manhattan based corp travelers)? Or is this just capacity balancing - lower TLV-SFO to 789 in the winter and then move the 77W to BOM? IN the summer then they could switch? Either way super interesting. I...Jump to post
Why 24 weekly fights out of SFO? There is no way this city has that much demand to SIN. Additionally, SIN is geographically a very poor place to connect from anywhere in NA.
I feel like this is becoming an arms race between UA and SQ.
Didn't DL fly JFK-BOM in the mid-2000's using the 777LR? Yeah from around 1 yr ('07-08) DL did JFK-BOM nonstop. It was one of their first 77L flights. When DL entered, AI had JFK-DEL nonstop (77L) and CO had EWR-DEL (77E). However, within 3-6 months of launching this route, AI started JFK-BOM and C...Jump to post
If ATL, 77L. If JFK, 77L or A359, more likely 77L. BOM has relatively short runways, enough so that AC had to use 77L instead of 789 for BOM-YYZ during the winter months (with longer flying time). Additionally, DL's A359 are not the highest MTOW available.Jump to post
Any chance that SQ will move SIN-SFO to SIN-SJC? Santa Clara County has a prosperous economy, and with Singapore being one of the largest tech hubs in Asia, there could certainly be potential to link SIN with San Jose. 3 nonstops SIN-SFO and 0 on SIN-SJC does not make a lot of sense, considering whe...Jump to post

I also think 3x daily on SFO-SIN is too much. They could have used the B789 on ORD/EWR-HKG, routes that would benefit greatly from the B789's added range over B77E (I believe these are the 2 longest B77E flights in the world). Interested to see if UA's B789 could make ORD-SIN with similar restrictio...Jump to post

Air India to revamp its F and J product. Funniest part is new product will be revealed by Friday June 22 Didn'y they already update it for VT-ALV/W/X? My guess is that the rest of the 77W, along with 77L's are next. Keeping F was a very bad idea IMO. AI's 77L has 8F, and is too sparsely configured ...Jump to post
First flight took off from DXB, operated by A6-EQD. A big move forward for EWR who will have their first DXB nonstop in a long time (since MH).
Anybody know if there is a UA protest planned tomorrow for the flight's arrival?
Is there any possibility that SFO may get the ULR some time? I'm interested to see how many economy pax are taking SQ32 instead of UA's flight, SQ2 SIN-HKG-SFO, or other similar routings. It seems to me that this route was started in reaction to UA, and it initially wouldn't have started until 2018 ...Jump to post
On several schedules, LH768/769 (FRA-PNQ-OTP-FRA) is showing as cancelled. Is this a signal that the route is quitely being discontinued?
I cannot find any news on a recent Privatair incident that may hvae caused this. If this holds, PNQ will lose its only Europe nonstop flight.
I get why UA is successful on EWR-BOM without having connections on the BOM end (EWR is a strong hub and EWR-BOM has strong O&D on both ends). Why do you think UA has no feed on the BOM end? Even though AI no longer has a real hub at BOM, UA codeshares a lot with 9W, who has a major hub at BOM....Jump to post
And what happens if down the line Air India keeps on expanding or if Indigo launches US flights? I know neither one can compete with Delta for premium passengers but they can take a large chunk of economy class passengers. Will Delta complain like they did for MEB3? Nearly all AI fights are from DE...Jump to post
The 77L hasn't been very successful because its economics drop off around the range of 77E/77W (8000 mi/13000 km). Also, the 77E/W are still relatively economical at their extreme ranges. Routes like HKG-JFK are nowadays comfortably flown by the 77W, and HKG-JFK has for a while been one of the longe...Jump to post
Interesting that DL are choosing BOM over DEL. DEL is not an insignificant hub for 9W. I suppose they are trying to counter AI's DEL hub model in which nearly all flights go via DEL. I was initially thinking that DL would launch ATL-DEL on the A359 as their return to India. It is interesting to see ...Jump to post
Great, that gives pax from the Northern NJ market better access to EK's great service and connections to many destinations, especially to Africa, Asia and Middle East. While UA offers non-stops to India via EWR, I am quite sure EK would be a far better way to get to there vs. other 1-stops and UA f...Jump to post
As was already stated, this is not a new development. EK208 has been in and out for several years now, so no surprise that it is going away. I think that this flight poses the greatest threat to AI, and not any US3 or European carrier. UA's EWR-DEL/BOM flights are some of the best-performing ULH rou...Jump to post
BOM-SYD should be operable by A332. A332 flies on routes like FCO-EZE which are ~900km longer than BOM-SYD.
IIRC there was a short periond where QF operated the A332 on BOM-SYD nonstop, but the return SYD-BOM had a stop either in SIN or Darwin.
I don't know about AMS, but 777 for SYD will be too big and well A330 doesn't have the range. Taking the deliveries of the B787 would have made more sense. I definitely could see the A332 oprating BOM-SYD-BOM nonstop. A332 flies routes like FCO-EZE which is nearly 900km longer than BOM-SYD. However...Jump to post
Air India is having difficulty making LHR - EWR work. Cheapest fare is always on Air India. I am sure if Air India (better managed) improves their economy and business product, they can get a higher fare Better yet just cancel this LHR-EWR flight. When you are competing with UA/BA/VS with their pre...Jump to post
Also out of curiosity, does anybody see 9W launching BOM-FRA/PVG flights? BOM-FRA is underserved (BLR sees more capacity), and 9W would break the *A monopoly on Germany to India. Additionally, for many S. Indian destinations, FRA-BOM-XXX on 9W could be more direct than FRA-DEL-XXX on AI. BOM-PVG I a...Jump to post
AI is adding one more weekly flight on all these 3 routes, all will be upgraded by mid-May.
Surprising ATQ-BHX is being upgraded as well. Is this at the expense of another DEL-BHX, or would this be a new altogether flight? (I can't find info on this)
Correction......DL's JFK BOM non stop flight worked well right from day 1. I got this info from a ten year old thread which was about AI's BOM JFK non stop struggling. In 2007-08 DL,AI ran parallel JFK BOM non stops where the former had a PLF of 70% while the latter was struggling at 30%. It was DL...Jump to post
On another note, however, I wouldn't be surprised if UA jumps on flights like ORD-BOM, SFO-BLR, and EWR-BLR in the near future. ORD/SFO/EWR are strong enough hubs to have flights that bypass DEL. UA's EWR-BOM overflies DEL (*A hub) but still does well since EWR very efficiently funnels traffic to In...Jump to post
Now tell me, which well run airline chooses to open an ultra long haul route with less than 50 likely passengers each way every day? Or is my math wrong? I think STV to DXB/DOH/AUH. Surat is the Business capital of Gujarat, and several Gujaratis have ties and/or relatives in Europe and North America. This map only shows a couple destinations, but it illustrates a point of the connectivity potential at SIN.
But GRU is not within range. It is too close to the antipode. If SQ is going to have another destination with the A359ULR, it's going to be one that actually benefits from a non-stop service and a heavy J demand, so it's going to be a destination they might already serve. They could just as well do...Jump to post
Minds can think alike! YYZ is the airport tor Canada’s major economic capital and one doesn’t need a ULR for LAX. It’s the only destination really making sense that is way beyond the range of a regular A359, although IAH is possible too. Yeah I was also intrigued if the standard A359 could make SIN...Jump to post
I'm thinking ORD and YYZ in addition to JFK/LAX. I also think SQ should consider using the standard A359 for a SIN-YVR service.
I am interested to see if CA can sustain 4 daily nonstops to SIN (2 from SFO, 2 from LAX). It seems like a lot of capacity.
