Re: Boeing’s Troubles

Lots of words there, but actions are more important. Unfortunately too many companies seem to act as if having an appropriate motherhood statement, and prefexing all communications about their accidents with "Safety is at the forefront of everything we do" is an alternative to actually do...

Re: AS1282 PDX-ONT decompression event, returned to PDX, FAA temporarily grounds 737MAX9 for inspections

Remember when Jack Welch was at GE, and it was making money hand over fist while implementing 6 Sigma and emphasizing quality, quality, quality. And all of his successors dismantled that as archaic thinking, then had to sell of 90 percent of that once-great conglomerate to others. Bravo! I've studi...

Question of Emirates Aircraft Scheduling

I had a look at the aircraft scheduling of the EK448/449 flight from DXB to AK. I am a little bit surprised, that Emirates seems to deploys more or less always the same 2 aircrafts (A6-EVK and A6-EVL). Especially since the aircraft is about 12h on the ground in DXB. I was under the impression that E...

Why has the C-17 four engines?

As far as I know, there were more powerful engines available in the 80s and 90s than the ones chosen P&W engines for C-17.
Why has the C-17 designed with 4 engines?

Just saw, that EK448 took a strange turn today (Sept 13) over southern India. Does anyone knows the reason for it?

Re: EMB190 Lands On St. Helena

How can the E190 be the suitable aircraft?
According to gcmap, the ETOPS 120 rating is not really sufficient for WDH-HLE (do I ready that correctly?).
Is ASI used as alternate?

I assume that they would use the model with the longest range (E190). But does this ac has the suitable ETOPS rating?

Airbus is making money on the A380 at about 20/year production rate. Of course they are making shedloads of more money by supporting the ~200 planes in service and more in the future.

Interesting comment!
Do the airlines have to a kind of a service fee?

Why couldn't airlines transport the entire system into the cloud to get the required redundancy?

Not too long ago, the Amazon Cloud service was down for a full day. So much about redundancy.

Re: BA experiencing computer problems.

@xmyai - good post! This brings it to the point. Outsourcing as concept basically works. But it requires a very well managed hand over project and an active management afterwards. In the cases I have experienced, neither was the case. I have seen a number of outsourcing/offshoring projects. None of ...

Re: BA experiencing computer problems.

I feel so sorry for the front line staff of BA- what do you tell angry customers when you have no information yourself? These are the really poor guys in this game. But it probably highlights the real weakness of this company. The IT melt down is one story. Even worse is the communication (or bette...

Re: BA experiencing computer problems.

Statement from Alex Cruz on BAs twitter feed suggests that it's a power failure. I do admire their optimism though "We're working hard to get anyone due to fly today, onto the next available flights". Good luck with that - it's a Bank Holiday weekend. The next available flights are unlike...

Re: BA experiencing computer problems.

I bet BA has been on the phone to Titan Airways for some backup. Titan would be an upgrade from BA I flew on them last month (B757) when they operated for Jet2 and I have to say I was impressed. Professional crew and smart interiors. The lack of information on BA.COM is dire. It took them hours to ...

Re: BA experiencing computer problems.

Some parts of the Press are reporting a power outage hit the BA servers. It will be interesting to read the detail (if it is made public), in due course. A power outage is a local thing. We have no news about widespread power outages or grid problems in the UK today. So how can a local power outage...

Are Airlines paying a Maintenance Fee to Airbus, Boeing & Co

I was wondering to other day how Airbus, Boeing etc. fund the continuous support of older aircraft models. Let's say FAA or EASA identifies a problem with B747, I assume Boeing has quite some efforts working out a solution for the issue. If the aircraft model is new, one could argue it's payed out o...

Production Statistics of DC-10

Maybe someone of the DC-10 fans is able to help me...

For a school-paper, I am searching for a production list (sorted by year) of the DC-10. If possible, it would be good to have the customers on the list.
Does anyone know where to get such a list/statistic?

Regards
J
