I wonder if competition from YVR has an impact on this. There are 4-5 daily flights from YVR to HGK direct (three different carriers) plus numerous 1-stop options with major Chinese/Japanese/Korean airlines. YVR is only an easy two hour drive away.

Interesting. I wonder what types of routes AC could run from YYZ to Western Europe that wouldn't warrant a widebody? It would seem most of Western Europe is in range? Might be really interesting on some longer very thin routes especially in the summer with less winds.

I agree. I don't see them changing names. Its a well established brand and most of their traffic will orginate in Canada. They may change their logo to make it more clear that they're a Canadian airline.

Does this indicate they are taking options on some additional 789s? I thought the original order was for 29 with 13 options. Wikipedia says the current fleet is 24. The 5 this year brings them to 29. TPE-HKG is 502 miles and has many, many widebodies. For example, 3 different airlines flew 744s on that route today, some more than one. Not true for passenger configured. I don’t think there are any HKG-TPE B747 passenger flights. Pretty sure Air China has several daily 747 flights between there. ...

I THINK you can do this in HKG with the various ferry services. You can land in HKG and not go through Hong Kong immigration. You can catch a ferry to macau or another Chinese city as long as you have the proper passport/visa.
