The BA source also has the BA123 LHR-DOH diverting to Athens due to ATC restrictions in Iraq on the same date.
I would suggest that the 2 diversions are probably linked.

I view this as Virgin / Flybe creating a London network that they can then use as leverage saying their customers want to fly to LHR to connect to VS/DL but can't due to lack of slots and how much better they could compete against BA if they had LHR slots.

The leasing company who own the aircraft will have a list of preferred maintenance companies and locations which they want to use following the repossession of the aircraft, and to prepare it for its next lease. They'll probably choose the one that can accommodate them at the earliest opportunity.

On EDI-KEF, WOW were up against easyJet as the incumbent carrier, with AA, DL, UA and Norwegian all offering non stop flights to the USA at the time.

FI fly GLA-KEF where they have no competition to KEF and the transatlantic flights out of GLA are seasonal summer only.
