It is the extreme shortage of long haul frames. There is a rolling program of (near) weekly cancellation blocks on a number of routes, including PHX, PHL, BNA and others. Through June and into early July one route will be blocked out for a week. Extreme but necessary.

Was this a bad deal now that Flybe has filed for bankruptcy and their slots will come back to the market? Could water down the price a bit. I believe BA reuse for flights to the same geographic region. So the examples given above typically recycle 1 Australasian destination for another. Rather than say to USA.(there may be exceptions but not the norm), BA flights numbering is pretty structured in this way
