August traffic figures are posted. Overall passenger volume is up 6.12%, while international is up 26.43% YTD. International traffic was down over 20% in August vs. July. Wonder why the drop off?

Interesting they both announced this simultaneously. :stirthepot: Also interesting that both would leave. One wonders if both really come back. WW seems less sure. Anyway, bottom line, CLE wasn't going to support two airlines to Iceland. It's crazy, particularly in Winter. CLE has never even had non-stop Europe service in the Winter. Even CO was seasonal. CVG lost its service for the Winter and there weren't even two airlines. It's not about CLE, too much ser...Jump to post
Cleveland.com has an article with some nice background and quotes from the carrier. https://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2018/09/icelandair_cancels_winter_flig.html. How Frontier-esque. Thanks for runway update. Was at the Stadium on Friday night and saw from my seat that the Burke runway was closed. Must have reopened. Remember there are also parallel runways at BKL (6's/24's), so perhaps one runway was closed for maintenance. http://aeronav.faa.gov/d-tpp/1809/05370ad.pdf#namedde...Jump to post
Breakdown of May, '18 CLE domestic-only boardings: Airline 5/18 ... 5/19 ...LF% ... LF% Thanks for sharing the data. I assume the comparison is 5/18 vs. 5/ 17 ? Re PUJ--do we now have three carriers? Who does Swift fly for Vacation Express or Apple Vacations? And who is the other carrier that isn't Swift? As a 737 pilot for FI, I see quite a lot of CLE flights on my schedule. One thing that we find strange is the handling of arriving international flights: Once we clear customs, we have to re-clear security and enter the airport again and walk through the terminal to baggage claim. I understand that...Jump to post
Looks like Icelandair is the early winner in the CLE-KEF sweepstakes https://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2018/07/icelandair_extends_schedule_be.html The article states that Icelandair is the first airline to offer year-round service to Europe. Check out UA2079 and UA1739 to and from MCO today. They are both operated by Polaris equipped 767-300s and scheduled to use A14. Aircraft come from EWR this morning and return tonight. Some sort of proving run? Wonder why they are using A14? Can’t any of the remaining UA gates on C handle wide bodies?Jump to post
Edit: And that's just the beginning. Don't get me started on the lack of quick and effecient transportation options to the respective city centers. CVG requires a trip by cab over a broken and congested Brent-Spence bridge (someone here even proposed taking the FERRY across as being quicker!). At l...Jump to post
CLE gave $1 million to both WOW and Icelandair where PIT gave $800,000 to WOW. That does not sound "far less" to me. In other words CLE paid $2 million for KEF service and PIT paid $800,000. CVG June numbers are out, 4297028 pax YTD, up 10.61% for May and 17.05% YTD. Growth has definitely slowed now that WN has been service for a complete year. I'm posting this as a bit of a long shot-- but what the heck. I'm looking for responses. I don't know where this stands but in 2016 KEF was announced by DHS as one of 11 airports on the short list of conversion to pre-clearance.
