This rumor sounds weird and doesn't add up. ET loves their A359 and have been putting them on their prestige routes for a while now. Perhaps for their upcoming VLA order, they're leaning towards the 779 vs the A35K. But as of now, the 359 isn't going anywhere.

JFK could work, NYC is overall a huge market so an additional 787 to the Middle East may not be overkill.

JFK could work, NYC is overall a huge market so an additional 787 to the Middle East may not be overkill.

Shenzhen and Chongqing seem like glaring holes. Also, if PVG is slot-restricted and ET can't file another frequency, perhaps Nanjing or Hangzhou could work. ADD, ET's primary hub, operates on roughly 3 banks (6-11 AM, 2-5PM, 8PM-2AM). If you visit the airport at any other time, it would be quite dead.

ET's European destinations are primarily based off of Outbound European travel to Africa. However, BCN is primarily an inbound tourism destination, and I doubt there's much demand to BCN from Africa. Thus, it didn't work for ET.

SIN-ICN-IAD , ICN is already connected to IAD but it's on KE, and the DC area has a large Korean population. A Star Alliance ICN-IAD would be great addition.
