I think most airlines recognize the need to serve certain destinations for certain reasons whether they are profitable or not. I doubt every route in the DL system turns a profit. Looks like they're launching with a refurbished 777 on both the ICN and HND routes so that will be exciting for MSP travelers. It'll be interesting to see what Tokyo routes survive long term. I do think DL will move the HND flight as soon as it can but it sounds like they'll sit on the slot from MSP...

My guess is that DL will pitch SEA, DTW or ATL to the DOT as replacements for MSP. I'm sure DL has its preferences but they'll take a swap to any of those three in lieu of MSP.

Do some research to confirm but historically Aegean has been the fastest path to star alliance gold (even if you don't fly with them directly). I know a lot of people who applied points to Aegean and found that the fastest way to get star alliance status even when flying only on UA.

Canada is in a nice spot with the bilateral. They've locked EK and EY out of Canada for the most part. It gives them a great barganing position. Canada is probably one of the biggest untapped markets for EK. I expect Canada to ask for some serious concessions in exchange for loosening the bilateral.

At this point, if DL gets locked out, expect an anti-trust lawsuit against DAL. The Justice Department openly stated that they had concerns about the 20 gate cap when the Wright Amendment was overhauled in 2006.

Only way Mideast flights return is if the US starts deploying large numbers of soldiers. Even the GSA contract is owned by JetBlue now. Without military traffic, I'm not sure there's enough O&D to ever go back to the Mideast.

DL used to have a flight from the US to BOM via AMS. I think it lasted for a while and then disappeared. Have things changed that much for them to re-add it back into the system?
