Re: CCTV in Aircrafts

Not really, especially in aviation. A CVR transcript is worth its weight in gold. It is fair and impartial. Plus, where is the need for a CVR? I presume here you refer to Cockpit Video Recorder? Yes, CVR is industry standard for Cockpit Voice Recorder. This is rookie stuff. The fact that you had to...

Lastly - FDR and CVR provide data and audio. An image is worth 1000 words. Not really, especially in aviation. A CVR transcript is worth its weight in gold. It is fair and impartial. Plus, where is the need for a CVR? I presume here you refer to Cockpit Video Recorder? I've always believed a video ...

Re: CCTV in Aircrafts

Couple of points here. Storage is generally not the issue. With the current technology, stream the data real time from the flight and store in onboard and on land/cloud. With Wifi access becoming more popular, techies can comment on data compression and burst transmission. Privacy is a different bal...

CCTV in Aircrafts

Per moderator recommendation - new thread on this topic to delink from the recent PIA crash. I believe not just the cockpit but even the passenger cabin should be under the lens - similar to public transit, trains etc. This will help not just with POV from a fellow passenger conflict but also provid...

Re: PIA A320 (flight PK8303) crashes in Karachi

Safety v/s privacy - that's all that there is to it. There is no problem in having transit buses with 10 cameras inside and yet in the isolated environment of an airplane 36000 feet in the air, privacy is a concern? While the CCTV comment was there for visuals, the bigger question is the telemetry d...

Discussed ad nauseam after AF447 and MH370. In summary, we are not quite there yet.

Precisely the point, with all the recent incidents, this still is not becoming a priority!

Re: PIA A320 (flight PK8303) crashes in Karachi

It still boggles my mind that, with current advancements in tech and connectivity, why there can't be a live telemetry from an aircraft in air. That has existed since the earlier space mission days and was quite sophisticated for that time. Instead, we are still hunting around for the CVR and FDR. H...

Captain and first officer to be separated by 6 feet as well. 3 FA to be deployed inside the cockpit with their feet between the pilots.

Re: What distance is too short for a plane but too far by car?

I've done LA-SF multiple times by road. LAX-OAK (closest for me both sides) is not a huge difference time-wise and If I add family to picture, the cost savings/flexibility is super.

But then, I like driving a lot.. a lot and post dinner departure to arrive midnightish (5 hrs flat) is a nice drive.

A more appropriate comparison could be on airports which can 'gate' max # of airplanes simultaneously.

Re: Favourite jumbo?

The 747. I was lucky enough that BA was still running BOM-LHR on a 747 in 2000 with the upper deck in Y config. Since there are no OH bins and I was on bulkhead seats, it was a fantastic legspace experience. To top it all, the attending FA pretty much set the cart in the galley and went down to join...

Re: Different cultures' impact on behavior on-board

People from certain parts of India tend to speak in slight loud volumes, it's not intentional but that how the native language probably is. This might be annoying to some as people are settling in prior to departure.

Re: Should there be a dress code for airline passengers?

Regarding smells....if I've been in transit for 20+ hours and have had to make a big landside connection at LAX, I will have had a full change of clothes (I mean everything)....but there's only so much that and deodorant will do. The times I had to do TATL towards Asia, I have changed everything at...

Re: Could "SuperSonic" Jets make a comeback?

I believe for the routes that an SST would operate on (TATL etc), the audience would rather enjoy the lap of luxury offered these days as opposed to fast travel. THis was not the case when Concorde was flying. At least I would, once I am done with a FTS flight. On a related note, I wonder if the Tu1...

Re: Most underrated plane spotting locations in the world

Close to LAX on Sepulveda Blvd, there's a In-n-Out location that is fantastic for spotting the birds on their final for 24R SMO has a park and a viewing gallery that provides for very nice views of the private jets and the occasional bi-planes/WWII era birds. PDK has something similar as well - and ...

Largest equipement-shortest route, smallest equipment-longest route

I am curious to know what those could be. And why airlines would do it that way? I am looking at point to point services and not equipment moving flights.
