The 737 crews that are ETOPS qualified (At least initially) are YUL based. The second ETOPS base will be YVR.

Only a portion of the 737Max order being received is planned to be ETOPS equipped. It appears the first 17 will all be ETOPS certified.

...and a few days ago an Emirates 777 bound for SEA and an ANA 789 bound for SEA diverted into YVR for a while due to fog in the emerald city. We are trading fog days lately.

In addition to the WIFI; The first few Fins require installation of the HUDs. Somebody had originally made the decision to order the 37s minus the HUDs :o. A subsequent decision was made to indeed outfit the whole fleet with dual HUDs however it was too late for the first few Fins coming off the Boe...

This was a trial run which required the approval of the Air Canada pilots association. (For scope reasons) Though Air Canada would have liked to continue and perhaps even expand the agreement with CargoJet, the pilot group as a whole apparently did not support the agreement in its current or propose...

All Air Canada pilots have Apple IPAD EFBs issued hence we all have one. My unscientific and unofficial observation on additional devices my colleagues carry is pretty much 50/50. The only program most pilots seem to need a personal device for is Netflix by sounds of it for their layover lol!

It's being rolled out in late September. There is already a significant employee event planned. I think it's going to be an unofficial race between AC and WS as to who flys it first in Canada.

Just an educated guess...but I suspect that upon the pilot groups ratification of the current contract "reopener" AC will soon thereafter announce the order of additional frames. Included in this order I suspect additional 321s will be coming to Rouge.

On today's flight 17 YUL-PVG today there were 16 connections originating in US cities for what it's worth. Today's load factor was over 95%.

Based on the latest fleet plan which projects an outlook to December 31st of 2018 it appears as though Air Canada will continue to operate at least 5 mainline 767-300 until at least that time. This of course does not include the Rouge 67s.

1831 Diverted into PDX due possible smoke in the aft galley area. Aircraft is safely on the ground.

1831 YVR-HNL on the 23rd is scheduled to operate as scheduled with a different aircraft.

Yes the 319 is capable of the sector, but it is not ideal. It's 300NM longer than YVR-MEX and I know we have load restrictions on 996/997. In the interim it could be done...but the MAX and C series will definitely offer better CASM and full load capability.

I believe AC is waiting to do YVR-MIA until it has either the MAX or C series. This leg is a bit of a stretch for the 319.

It is permanent. However keep in mind that everything is subject to change!

I think long term AC would prefer the 737Max on the route however at the moment AC wants the extra 16 seats on those flights vs. only 120 on the mainline 319s.

For AC the decision to upgauge YVR-EWR from an A319/320 to a 787-8/9 has been a phenomenal success in terms of pax carried. Flt#548/549 load factors are extremely high. Averaging around 90%. I cannot speak to yield or profitability however the J cabin tends to be full.

Connecting in YYZ is extremely hassle free nowadays especially given it's one terminal in the case of AC. The answer is cost.

ACs flight planning system (like most major airlines) generates the most cost efficient (time wise and cost wise) route taking into accounr weather as well as ATC Nav charges etc.

AC832 diverted to FRA due to fog.

AC833 had to stop in YYT due to crew duty issues. (Pilots)

They were likely already on the way to the airport before it was know 833 would be delayed hence their duty day had begun.

I think they are still behind comparable Air Canada wages and working conditions. The lack of advancement in recent years has not helped the over all mood. An 80% No vote suggests to me that the arrival of unionization (ALPA) at WestJet is now imminent.

Expect an additional wide body order (firming of options) by this coming spring 2017 at the latest. AC is not done yet with its wide body growth international growth.
