If you look at the following video at 5:40, you will clearly see that the business class seats on the Swiss 777 go fully flat.

There was something wrong with your specific seat.
The Thompson Vantage seat used by Swiss (and lots of other airlines) is definitely lie flat. There are more spacious lie flat seats out there, but the Swiss seat is fully horizontal.

Trans Caribbean Airways: "the 5th engine jetline"

Came across an ad from the early 1960s for Trans Caribbean AIrways. Their slogan at the time was "the 5th engine jetline". They flew Dc-8s from JFK to San Juan and a DC-6 from San Juan on to Aruba. Anyone know what the "5th engine" reference was for? Did they count the APU as a 5...

As I recall, the 707 got a few extra years of life as a result of Nixon's 1972 visit to China. CAAC was permitted to buy 10 or so which were delivered in 1974 or so, well after the model had become basically obsolete.

In addition to the additional exit doors, the 767 floor also needs to be strengthened to accomodate the extra weight. As a result, 8 abreast is not a viable retrofit option for most 767 ope...
