Although the possibility is remote, an internal engine fire on shutdown would require dry motoring the engine. You need a pneumatic source for that, most times it's supplied by the apu.

Jump to postA10 is only good for CAS. If we already have air superiority and the are no air defence systems, then it works. Other than that it's a sitting duck, a MIG 29 would pick them off no problem.
Jump to postKnobs are held in place by a little set screw that requires a hex Allen wrench to tighten…. While you could carry a set of Allen wrenches to tighten up that screw if you wanted, it’s definitely a call maintenance type of thing as pilots don’t typically carry a set of Allen wrenches. ...or the set s...
Jump to postIf there really were a mid-air collision, would there not be more damage to the prop then a single bladetip? Could the fuel dump actually have caused this damage? There's a lot more damage than just one blade, look at the individual blade angles. The pitch change mechanism is broken, evidence of a ...
Jump to postI might be missing something but are you asking if jet fuel can bend metal? Well, jet fuel has a mass just like everything has. Throw enough mass at something, and it will bend. Why would that not apply to fuel dumped at a tiny propeller? It wasn't fuel that damaged the prop, it was a 2nd rate pilo...
Jump to postCan anyone see what the elevators are doing? If you have an airplane that is at max weight, at low airspeed and unlucky enough to be out of cg aft, the nose will start pitching up. Pilots will counter that with nose down elevator input but if the airplanes condition is as above, they will run out of...
Jump to postThe area of the fuselage in the prop arc has strengthened cabin windows and ice shields. They're only to protect from ice coming off the prop blades. If a blade is slung off the hub towards the fuselage it will penetrate the cabin like a hot knife through butter.

Unprofessional.
We hear about cabin crew getting attacked by pax and then we have this guy injecting his political views. So, if he pisses someone off, and they have to divert because of an irate passenger going off, wouldn't it have been better to have kept it to himself?
Only birds that fly around at night in Hawaii are owls. An owl is not bringing a 737 down.

DC GPU won't run the electric hydraulic pumps on the Dash, they're AC powered. Surely there is a static inverter off the DC bus, how else is the AC bus powered when in an emergency situation where the aircraft is just powered off batteries ? Yes, there are 3 inverters on board that provide single p...

I wouldn't call it a design flaw. Since the Q400 was introduced into service, Bombardier knows of 3 other incidents where the aileron cable has broken. A serious incident yes, but redundancy is provided by a pair of roll spoilers on each wing that provide adequate roll authority. The aileron and spo...

I have worked on both the Q400 and ATR 72 in maintenance, I don't remember what the airframe life is but 80k sounds about right. If they are like the Dash 8 classic, then at 80k there is an expensive check that can be done that takes it to 120k. I don't know what it is for the ATR but I don't think ...

If I remember correctly, the very outboard wing box section on the old Dash 8's was sealed up with Orcon tape.
