Re: Which Thomas Cook suffered a winglet failure

What kind of shoddy operation is Thomas Cook operating? I can see for a couple of flights until the winglet can be repaired but 6 weeks??? I believe it`s perfectly safe to fly without a winglet, it is after all a fuel saving device. Also I`ve flown Thomas Cook & found them to be excellent, not ...

Re: Thai looking to buy around 30 aircraft to modernise fleet

Looks like TG is on the lookout for some new aircraft, replacing the 772 and older A333s. They're talking with Airbus and Boeing. I think it could very easily be a split order. And A.net goes into meltdown as they also announce the A380 is key to their future! http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles...

Again the wildcard on this MD-90 "retirement" is that whether its needed to cannibalize as a "parts plane" or if indeed the overhaul costs are too high to justify the ROI for another HMV cycle. Pulling down 65 aircraft is no small project.... All indications I've seen is that th...

What a colossal waste for DL to buy up these MD-90s only to retire them after less than 5 years How was it a waste? DL got ~3 MD90s for the price of one new 737 and the low cost mods have had more than enough time to get their ROI. On top of that the short gap fill gave DL a chance to clean up the ...

Re: Did Delta Make a Mistake Acquiring the A350 and A330 Neo?

It's not the same V2500. That is the problem. Only one shop in the world overhauls this model and their costs have risen to about 6 Million a overhaul. The Jt8D-219 can be overhauled for less than a Million each. Correct. The MD90s use the D5 V2500 while the 320 uses the A1/A5 engine. But there are...

Re: Did Delta Make a Mistake Acquiring the A350 and A330 Neo?

I can't add much to the 787 vs 350 thread but this line here you might want to rethink. The MD90 purchase is reversing course. Due to astronomically high engine overhaul costs they are soon to be retired. All the MD90s might just be gone before the last MD88 leaves the fleet. MD-90s use the same V2...

Most people think its just after overhauls but even some of the c-checks require them depending on the work scope of the check.
