"I don’t know how you define success in business, but I’d rather be selling 300 of my product at a profit rather than 900 at a loss. " Neither scenario suggests sufficient momentum to support investment into an all-new, new technology aircraft design. Bombardier widow, you love to disdain...

They should work with Embraer, they have the experience to certify commercial aircraft. And by "working with" I mean a real joint-venture, not poaching Brazilian engineers. Two questions here: 1. Would japanese ego allow such cooperation? I am having hard time thinking about Japanese join...

Embraer does not have the money for "disruptive" projects nor the stomach for joint ventures where it does not play the role of leader.

Totally unlikely.

I'd be a lot more excited if they simply go on and build a new narrow body airliner to rival the MAX and Neos or maybe a solid performing mid sized aircraft which the market lacks. Does anyone have any photos of the current bins? The E-jets have a 2-2 configuration in coach. Isnt the current bin deep enough to fit a bag flat, perpendicular to the aircraft? Interesting that in the press release, the Embraer CEO was quoted as saying "the E175 was upgraded with a series of modifications that improved fuel burn by 6.5%." So which is it? Was the E1 upgraded with these modifications? If not, why mention the E2 if the order is for the E1? This imp...

Can Embraer build a larger jet AND get it thru certification before 2040? Embraer is not Mitsubishi, they know how to build a civil aircraft to certification and have successfully done it time and again, on budget and within the promised timescales. I admittedly can't keep up with all the details in my old age, but it seems like all the comparisons are to the largest 737 models. But really, that is just one segment of the market. Many 737s are used on much shorter routes. They don't need that extra range. But also, is it the E-jets that should...

I would really like to see a modernized A340 with 4 GTF engines. Perhaps even a condition where the internal turbofans were from the PW1100 series and the external ones had a reduced diameter from the PW1900 series. Everything very optimized.
