Qantas would be the airline I feel the most connected to, my first flight (DRW-PER), first international (SYD-AKL), first intercontinental (SYD-BKK) and first long haul (BKK-LHR) flights where all with them. Combined with the minor sense of pride you get when you see the national animal at airports ...Jump to post

QF also leased a BA 744 at this time also VH-NLH (never leaves the hangar) - operated in a hybrid livery with BA config. I remember that aircraft. According to the Qantas Source, it spent nearly two and half years with QF, from November 2000 to March 2003. Wouldn’t the oddball configuration and dif...Jump to post
OEB is surely the next QF 747 to go into retirement, it's amazing to think they've kept her around longer than they did with OJT (a newer and refurbished aircraft retired only yesterday).Jump to post
I didn't record any flights prior to 2014 so I have no way of knowing for certain but I can clearly remember doing SYD-BKK-LHR & return on the Qantas 747. Also considering the amount of times I flew SYD-PER & SYD-SIN/BKK-LHR in the 2000s I think it's very likely i'v flown on quite a few, not...Jump to post

Does anyone know if there are any more 747s scheduled to fly between Perth & Sydney (particularly on the 27th & 1st) ? There are definitely future services, as I am due to fly the 747 to/from SYD on the 21st and 23rd of this month. A quick browse on the QF site shows me that QF580 and 568 P...Jump to post

As the 747s are replaced by the 787s it opens up a lot of questions about routes like HND where the 787 is simply too small for QF to make the most out of it. I'd expect some of the free A330s being used to restart SYD-NRT to operate alongside a SYD-HND 787. I believe that QF will inevitably purchas...Jump to post
I agree with the comments re it being not nearly as dangerous as the article makes it out to be, rather it's just the angle of the photo.
But sadly it's only a matter of time before some idiot pushes the limits and gets the whole beach closed.
I favour Qantas on domestic flights as i'm tied in with their frequen flier program.Jump to post
There's a number of flights out of PER which are centered around transporting workers in minsites in regional West Australian cities to/from Perth. Qantas & Virgin Australia even have subfleets of Fokker 100s and A320s based in PER for these flights. PER-KGL PER-ZNE PER-PBO PER-LEA PER-ONS Are s...Jump to post
I don't have any record of flying with British Airways despite doing 3 trips between Sydney & London in the 2000s and 6 flights on LHR-DUB.
I also haven't logged a single QF A330-300 despite the Qantas A330-200 being my most common aircraft by far.

QF and CX both still do. In QF's case I believe it's for international only - there are heaps of domestic flights on which they provide hot meals but usually without a choice of options. QF usually offer a choice of two on longer domestic flights (like PER-SYD) CX gave me two options on PER-HKG &am...Jump to post

In Australia my last name is virtually unique to my family. Theres about 500 people with my last name in New England and Ireland and considering my first name, Angus, is moderately uncommon I would say there's less than 5-10 people worldwide with my full name. I completely agree with the article. Minor aviation incidents are usually a ripe target for a slow news day as it not an industry the general population knows a lot about and considering the number of variables like weather, landing slots and fuel prices, delays and minor inconveniences are almost i...Jump to post
There's Skippers Aviation & Cobham here in Perth, and if you include subsidaries there's also Network Aviation (which operates aircraft on behalf of QantasLink). If flight is 6+ hours i'll bring a change of shirt, toothbrush, blanket and a pillow.
It’s not the range that is an issue, apparently he aircraft aren’t equipped with life rafts (?) or some other equipment required for extended overwater flights (crossing the Bass Straight does not require an overwater equipped aircraft). Correct - the B717 is only approved (at type certificate leve...Jump to post
I would love QF to be a little more interesting across the tasman. Beat NZ to the punch and operate CBR-AKL. Bring back ADL-AKL and go year round to PER. ADL/CBR/PER-AKL seem like obvious choices, maybe something a bit more ambitious like SYD-ROT/DUD & HBA-AKL. I also wonder if there's ever bee...Jump to post
I have never booked an entire trip for a unique aircraft but I have adjusted a couple flights when given the oppourtity.
In 2016 I spent a little more to fly SQ (over Scoot) between HKG-SIN to log my first a380 and last year I took a slightly earlier flight between SYD-CBR to log a QF 717.
